Singapore is a relatively safe country.
Besides having a low crime rate and good health care, we are also amongst some of the safest countries in terms of traffic-related accidents and deaths.
However, of course, safety must never be taken for granted.
When people’s guards are down, no one is immune to the dangers of traffic. No, not even TPs and paramedics attending to previous accidents.
As my mum always said when I was a kid: “马路如虎口” (Translation: Roads are as dangerous as a tiger’s jaws).
But you know what’s scarier than a car about to hit you?
A delivery truck about to hit you.
DHL Truck Collides With Blue Lorry
And when I say “collide”, I meant that the gigantic truck basically smashed the much smaller lorry out of its way.
The moment of the said accident that took place at Tanah Merah Coast Road was captured and posted onto the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page.
The video starts a little abruptly, as the yellow DHL truck had already begun its rampage the moment the video begins.
While the positions of the two vehicles were unclear due to the video being filmed perpendicularly, the DHL truck appeared to have underestimated its own size while overtaking the lorry and ended up colliding against its tail, sending it spinning and skidding towards the curb.
The 6 men riding at the back of the lorry were then sent rolling on the road after being thrown off by the impact (along with what appears to be their work equipment). Thankfully they avoided being hit by the enormous DHL truck.
Four of the men managed to get up on their feet to check on their colleagues and equipment, while the remaining two appeared to be more heavily injured and remained laid on the ground.
It was reported that the six men were attended to and brought to Changi General Hospital and remained conscious throughout.
Let’s hope they will be fine.
DHL Driver Under Investigation
Based on the video, it seems that the DHL truck simply drove off without slowing down at all.

The truck also appeared to have been driving at a very high speed (especially for a heavy vehicle).
I have no idea what kind of rush the driver was in. Maybe he/she ate a bit too much of the new McSpicy and was rushing for a toilet.
However, DHL has stated that they are aware of the incident and are assisting the police in their investigations.
So for the driver who hit and ran, you can ride but you can’t hide.
