Everything About The Early Closure Of MRT Stations On The NEL in July 2019

Okay, early closure. Singaporeans are probably used to this already, given how SMRT is working harder than ever to minimise train breakdowns.

But, it’ll be a little different this time.

Instead of the usual East-West (EW) or North-South (NS) lines, it’s the purple line that’s going through early closure.

Five Stations To Close Earlier Than Usual In July

According to SBS Transit Facebook page, five stations, from Kovan to Punggol, will close earlier for maintenance works.

So what will they be working on?

They mentioned that they’re doing track maintenance, parts of the power system as well as the platform doors.

Here Are The Details:

Now, if you’re like my handsome colleague, PartyAnimal82, who always drinks at Clark Quay and catch the last train home to Hougang, this is for you.

The stations will close at around 11 pm on all Fridays and Saturdays in July 2019.

You can check below for the exact timing:

The other stations, who are not closing early, will be affected too.

SBS Transit has warned that the train frequency will continue to operate but at longer intervals of about nine minutes.

Shuttle Bus Service & Extension of Hours

SBS Transit understands the true value of relationships: to make it last longer, you’ve got to give and take.

Given how they’ve taken away operating hours from you, here’s what they’re giving back.

There’ll be a bus shuttle service 21 which will operate on a frequency of 1 to 5 minutes. This particular bus service will stop at bus stops or bus interchanges near affected stations.

And the fares will be adjusted to what you’ll pay if the train is operating.

And That’s Not All

You know how trains can get to the next station faster than buses, given how trains have a dedicated track allocated to them while buses have to deal with traffic lights and more.

They’re also extending their southbound train services from Serangoon to Harbourfront to 12.15 am.

Plus, LRT services in Sengkang are extended to 1.10 am. In Punggol, it’s extended to 1.15 am.

Bus service 325 (from Hougang Central Bus Interchange) will also extend its hours, with the last bus departing at 12.50 am.

So make sure you plan your time properly, eh, or else you might just have to fork over additional money for a cab home.
