East Coast Park (ECP) is the go-to place for families when malls and anywhere else in S’pore too boring. And I guess nature is part of the appeal.

Of course, the BBQ as well. Perfect spot for the long weekend to celebrate National Day, if not overseas.

But what you did not know is that after throwing fireworks for the NDP, the fireworks are still literally ongoing in our country this long weekend.

Don’t worry; no people got hurt in the fires, which is why I can make jokes like that.

Yeah, fireS. Not a typo.

Fire spotted near East Coast Park 8.50 pm, 12 Aug 2019

Imagine cycling along, wondering about global warming and thinking, “Damn, that urban heat island effect and global warming is really getting to Singapore…”

And then you see this:

Except, it’s not even that small. Let’s zoom out a little…

If you’re sadistic and like to watch burning vegetation for 43 seconds, here’s a tweet.

It’s even scarier right in front of the fire:

I remind you that this is the size of TWO FRIGGING FOOTBALL FIELDS.

Yeah, we’re using football fields as measurements for frigging fires now. It’s like the same scenario when other people in your class bring out the protractors for your math test; it’s a measurement you didn’t know you needed until now.

Fire brought down at 10.30 pm 12 Aug 2019

In SCDF’s Facebook, they updated that they brought the fire under control at 10.30 pm.

At about 8.50pm, SCDF responded to a vegetation fire near Marina East Drive. The fire was approximately the size of two football fields.

SCDF surrounded the fire with 7 water jets. 12 emergency vehicles and about 50 firefighters have been deployed.

The fire was brought under control at 10.30pm. There are no reported injuries.

A vegetation fire broke out near East Coast Park on Monday night (Aug 12).

At this point, you might want to clap for our heroes, and you really should, because this isn’t the only fire they faced this weekend.

And there’s one even bigger.

2 more vegetation fires 11 Aug 2019, one being the size of 10 football field

So you remember that football field protractor thing? I’m not just saying that for shits and giggles. Because STOMP reported 2 more vegetation fires on 11 Aug 2019, with one at Jurong Road and the other along Pang Sua Canal.

The Jurong Road one is about 10 football fields, and the Pang Sua Canal is 1 football field.

No injuries were reported here as well.

At this point, you’re probably shocked. Because you clicked Goody Feed expecting sunshine and happiness, only to find S’pore burning like the sun.

Vegetation fire increased by 59.8% to 588 in 2018

What the hell is going on? What caused the fires?

Let’s take a look at some statistics from SCDF.

You might be thinking there must be some idiot who put a cigarette there, some trash here and there, maybe some exploding PMDs…

No.

While the real reasons for the 3 fires above are still under investigation, SCDF said that the fires in 2018 were “largely due to vegetation fires caused by dry weather in February 2018, which saw 213 vegetation fires as compared to 17 vegetation fires in February 2017.”

Yeah. Dry weather. You can’t really believe that it’s 3 PMDs exploding at 3 different places, much less all the way at Jurong, do you?

If you’re contributing to climate change, you’re contributing to that dry weather there too.

This is as close as it gets to nature getting so angry that it lighted itself on fire.

The last time I saw someone become so angry they light themselves on fire is on Dragon Ball Z. I can tell you that it didn’t end well for Frieza.

Guess what? I’m pretty sure we ain’t Goku here, and the planet sees us as the Frieza in this situation.

Is S’pore raining hell and fire? Is this the end of the world? Should I escape to another country?

Well, it doesn’t matter what you’re thinking, cause wherever you choose to go, we’re still f***ed. But don’t take it from me, take it from Bill Nye who nobody believed can swear until this:

So let’s just enjoy our time together while everything burns around us.
