Everything About the Ngee Ann City Man’s Death in 60 Seconds

According to multiple mainstream media outlets, a 35-year-old man has passed away following a steep fall inside Ngee Ann City on Sunday (14 July) afternoon.

The man was found lying motionless and was unconscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The cause of his death, and whether the fall’s of an accidental nature, are not yet clear. Police, who were alerted to the incident at 2:07 p.m., are currently investigating the case of unnatural death.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force has confirmed that it was alerted to the incident as well.

Eyewitnesses

According to the retail staff at the mall, the man plunged from the third level to the basement two level near the escalator.

Shopkeepers working near the area said they heard a loud sound around the time the incident occurred.

A woman, who was tending to Action City Plus, alleged that she was attending to customers over the counter when the man fell right beside them.

One customer reportedly felt his hair graze past.

A man who identified himself as an ActionCity manager told The New Paper that his staff at the kiosk were traumatised, and subsequently went home after giving statements to the police.

Part-time waiter Jerdy Ang, 21, who operates at a cafe on the third floor, didn’t see the incident but expressed that his colleague did. The latter, who allegedly saw the man walking from the corridor towards the railing, thought he was “seeing things wrongly” and realised that the man had fallen only after the sound of the fall.

Another media outlet reported a more detailed version of the event.

“My colleague said the guy walked briskly out from the toilet corridor and jumped over the railing by himself,” Mr Ang said.

“There was no shouting and he seemed to be alone.”

According to Mr Ang, the mall was crowded at the time of the incident, and a group of people had converged upon the area.

He added that a woman also intervened to offer assistance to the man before police and paramedics arrived, but he didn’t know if they knew each other.

Clean-up

According to The Straits Timesthe site was cleaned up shortly before 5:00 p.m.
