Lest you’ve been dwelling under the sea with Spongebob, you would surely have heard of that infamous Cannes incident, in which a Vietnamese model found herself under close scrutiny by her home country…
…for adopting a rather ‘controversial’ dress code.
But if you haven’t, no worries; this article will serve to dish up everything, everything…
You’ll wanna know about the no-frills incident.
Everything About the Vietnam Model Who Wore a See-Through Gown in Cannes Film Festival
During the Cannes Film Festival in May, Vietnamese fashion designer and model Ngoc Trinh sported a rather skimpy dress for the occasion.
Alright, maybe skimpy’s an understatement. Here, take a look for yourself.
Think it’s pretty alright? Or under the impression that it’s just a tad bit too revealing?
Well, over in Vietnam, it has reportedly caused an outrage.
Possible punishment
According to oyeyeah.com, the flimsy, see-through black gown Ngoc adopted for the premiere has raised quite a few eyebrows, and she could even be facing possible punishment for her dress code.
According to reports, Vietnamese officials are ready to slap the model with a fine, stating that it was so sexy it should be illegal.
Well, that’s gonna touch quite a few feminists’ nerves, alright.
Public outrage
According to VNExpress, during the National Assembly session in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, reportedly told legislators that Trinh’s outfit was improper and has caused public outrage in their home country.
“Her outfit was improper, offensive and has caused public outrage,” he reportedly said.
And apparently, he has ordered an investigation into whether Trinh actually contravened Vietnam’s public decency laws by donning the dress, even though the fact’s that she actually did so far from home.
If proven guilty, however, she could potentially face a huge fine.
Netizens react
While Vietnam itself might be up in arms over Ngoc’s dress code, netizens online were a little kinder.
One, for instance, suggested that Ngoc’s dress code might’ve stemmed from the notion that she was, in fact, not wearing the black gown in Vietnam.
Ngoc Trinh needs some love – she probably thought "hey I'm not in Vietnam so I can wear what I want, yay!" and then this s*it happens https://t.co/TzTRdnnRuw

Another expressed that Vietnam’s a “7th century backward home country.”
A model could be fined for wearing what she wants, by her 7th century backward home country half way around the world (Vietnam). https://t.co/uIkSfoRH9P

There was one, however, who felt that the dress was a little inappropriate.
But even so, he didn’t think that a fine was necessary.
(Mom, dad, I’d like you to meet my Cannes date Ngoc. 😂)
I’m fine with this but agree it’s probably not appropriate attire even for Cannes. But FINED? Come’on ppl.

This wasn’t the first time Ngoc donned an especially revealing outfit, however
According to VN Express, Trinh has been dubbed “the lingerie queen.”
And you don’t have to look further than her Instagram profile to really figure out why.
Because we have a certain age range to cater to, I shall decline from posting any more graphic images of Ngoc.
You can, however, look up more on her Instagram handle @ngoctrinh89.
But anyways, what do you think of Ngoc’s chosen outfit for the occasion? Is it too provocative as her homeland country are insisting?
Or is it simply a case of ‘the right thing, at the wrong time’?
