Everything About the ‘Water Fountain’ Pipe Leak At CTE Exit in 60 Sec

If you were driving past CTE this morning, you’d have come across a wondrous sight like this.

On the morning of 24 October 2018, drivers driving on the CTE near Cavanagh Road exit of the expressway would see a tall fountain of water shooting up into the air.

National water agency PUB said preliminary investigations revealed that the pipe had a leakage.

They added that after being alerted to the incident, they’ve immediately sent people down to isolate the leak.

The incident has since been resolved and they assured the public that the incident didn’t affect water supply to nearby residents.

So if you’re driving back home today after work via the CTE, don’t worry. The only jams you have to worry about are ones caused by accidents.

What PUB Has Been Doing To Reduce Such Incidents

When asked about the pipemanship (yes, I just came up with that) in Singapore, PUB said that they carry out inspections on its pipe network at least twice a year.

In addition, they’ve also been replacing “high-risk” pipes in its pipe renewal programme. They’re on track to replacing 50km worth of pipes in their pipe network this year.

The pipes used to replace the older pipes were made of better materials like ductile iron and steel and designed to withstand the test of time better.

“There are also regulations to ensure that contractors take proper measures to prevent damage to our pipelines during construction activities,” PUB said.

They’re now fully investigating the incident to find out what led up to the water fountain.

Netizens’ Comments Showed They DGAF

While there are netizens who are outraged at PUB or other parties for the incident that happened, there are more who DGAF.

And their answers are amusing AF.

Here are some of the more interesting ones we’ve picked out for you:

Sharp-eyed netizens notice something weird

Here’s the video the netizen was talking about.

But it’s pretty good to see that we’ve such faith in PUB, doesn’t it?

At least it wasn’t as bad as the other burst pipe that happened in Bukit Batok.

Last year September, a pipe burst at 9.53 pm and PUB only managed to get the situation under control at 1.50 am.

The incident happened due to a collision between a vehicle and a surface pipe.

But hey, netizens’ comments back then were gold too.

Whoever says that people in Singapore aren’t creative?
