For those who stays near to Jurong Point, you’d definitely have frequented the fast-food kiosk, Take 5! at least once. After all, their hum jim peng and you tiao are to-die-for.
Well, from 5 Apr onward, you won’t be able to do this anymore for the next two weeks because the kiosk has been suspended for rodent and cockroach infestation.
Here’s what’s been going on.
Take 5! Accumulated 12 Demerit Points Over The Past Year
On 5 April 2017, NEA suspended operations of the Take 5! kiosk because it had accumulated 12 demerit points over the past year for their failure in keeping their stall pest-free. Take 5! is a subsidiary of Old Chang Kee.
In addition, the kiosk was fined S$800 for their non-compliance with NEA regulations. Staff working at the kiosk must attend and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course again before resuming work.
The manager of the kiosk claimed that it was cleaned regularly, and weekly pest control operations were conducted weekly by Jurong Point. It was also added that while cockroaches were seen once or twice on the premises, it was a “rare” occurrence.
Third Case of Cockroach Infestation in a Month
Take 5 wasn’t the first food shop in Jurong Point to get suspended by NEA for non-compliance.
On 2 Mar, a food stall in Kopitiam, the food court on the third level of the mall was suspended after it has accumulated 12 demerit points. Six for a cockroach infestation problem, and another six because they used unclean cooking utensils.
Six days later on 8 Mar, another food stall in Kopitiam was also suspended for cockroach infestation and because they did not register a stall assistant.
Jurong Point Pledge to Take Action Against Errant Tenants
Jurong Point’s management launched an “immediate investigation” with Take 5 and pest control contractors. They will also be conducting a joint inspection with NEA before they allow the food kiosk to resume operations.
“The mall management plays an active ownership role in its tenants’ pest control and will not hesitate to take firm action against any tenant found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act,” – Today
