A few weeks ago, it was reported that around 2.2 million Singaporeans hadn’t yet redeemed their SingapoRediscover vouchers even though it was due to expire on 30 June this year.
Scientists could not account for this phenomenon, given that Singaporeans have been queueing for free things for decades.
Despite this, the authorities said at the time that no changes would be made to the deadline.

But just three weeks later, they’ve changed their mind.
SingapoRediscovers Vouchers Scheme Extended to End of 2021
Good news for procrastinators: the SingapoRediscovers Vouchers scheme has been extended to the end of 2021.
With this extension, products that are valid from 1 July can be purchased from 1 June, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said.
According to STB, over a million adult Singapore citizens have used their vouchers at least once.
The rest will have until December this year to use theirs.
Reduce CrowdingÂ
One of the reasons the authorities extended the deadline was to reduce crowding in the last couple of months.
If a large chunk of the population puts off using their vouchers at the last minute, crowds would form at hotels and attractions.
As Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan said: “It is opportune because it allows Singaporeans to space out visits to all of the different attractions in the midst of the pandemic to reduce unnecessary crowding.”

Contributed $200 Million to Local Tourism
If you were unaware that the gahmen gave citizens $100 in vouchers last year to spend on local tourism, you might want to get your blood-kiasu levels checked.
The $320 million scheme was launched last August to revive our comatose tourism industry.
Singaporeans aged 18 and above were each given $100 worth of vouchers to spend on hotels, attractions, and tours.
So far, the scheme has contributed over $200 million to Singapore’s tourism-related businesses.
In addition to the hotels, tours, and attractions themselves, Singaporeans also spent another $55 million in retail, food and beverage, and transport.

For those who don’t know, the vouchers can be redeemed online through five authorised booking partners: Changi Recommends, GlobalTix, Klook & UOB Travel Planners, Traveloka, and Trip.com.
You’ll need to remember your SingPass password to redeem them, however.Â
Don’t Want To Use Them? Donate Them Instead
If you have no use for these vouchers, you don’t have to let them sit in your drawer and collect dust like your passport.
Instead, you could donate to Klook Cares, an initiative comprising many non-profit organisations which aims to help underprivileged families and migrant workers in Singapore.
