To all egg lovers, good news: Singaporean supermarket chain FairPrice is offering a 55 cent discount for their house brand eggs.
Here are the details of when and why this discount is taking place.
Discounted Eggs from 20 April to 27 April
FairPrice’s Pasar Fresh Eggs will be offered at a discounted price of $6.95 for 30 eggs. This is 55 cents cheaper than the usual $7.50.
The offer will be while stocks last, from 20 April to 27 April. It’ll be available across all FairPrice supermarket retail forms, even FairPrice Online.
Customers may purchase up to two trays of 30 eggs.
Egg Prices Rising In Recent Months
The Straits Times reported that the price of a tray of 30 eggs costs $7.50 at both Sheng Siong and FairPrice in April 2022.
It cost $7.20 in March 2022, and $6.15 in February 2022.
Chief procurement officer at FairPrice Group, Mr Tng Ah Yiam, said that FairPrice strives to provide good value in various ways, like special discounts for products when possible.
He added that the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russo-Ukraine war have led to rising egg prices as the cost of goods, labour and logistics rise.
Additionally, hens at local farms have been struck by Newcastle disease. It is a contagious and fatal disease that affects poultry, thus leading to a temporary decrease in egg production.
FairPrice Diversifying Egg Sources
However, FairPrice has been increasing their sources of eggs to ensure that they’ll always have a ready supply. They currently import eggs from seven countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and Poland.
FairPrice also sources eggs locally. Their multiple suppliers of eggs thus ensure that FairPrice will not experience egg shortages.

Not Just Egg Prices That Are Rising
It isn’t just eggs. The prices of bread have also been increasing in Singapore.
In February, it was reported that a 600g loaf of Gardenia Enriched White Bread costs $2.60, up from $2.40.
A 550g loaf of Sunshine Enriched Soft White Bread now costs $2.30, up from $2.10. A 500g loaf of Top One Enriched White Bread has also risen from $1.60 to $1.70.
The costs of raw materials, key ingredients, packaging, supply chain and labour have been rising across the different types of food suppliers, from bread to eggs.
Additionally, the Russo-Ukraine war also placed even more pressure on rising costs. You can watch this video to understand why prices of everything are increasing due to Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine:
