It’s Friday, and what does that mean?

You’re taking a slightly longer lunch break, you’re leaving the office early and you’re going to party till the wee hours because #TGIF

And that also means someone in Goody Feed has to munch on some new fast-food item, because #FastFoodFriday

Truth to be told, we were pretty indecisive this morning: should we go for the Popeyes’ Yummy-Tori Chicken or McDonald’s chocolate pie?

We then decided to do a poll with our Instagram…but later, I realised we’ve less than 5,000 followers in our Instagram.

Like that how to have a poll?

So if you’re reading this, please do us a favour by following us on Instagram. I know some of the people there are quite ugly, but it’s refreshing to see ugly fellows on Instagram, isn’t it?

Anyways.

Eventually, since it’s been a while since I’ve any Popeyes, I decided to go for their Yummy-Tori chicken, and let’s just say that thank God I chose that.

Because it could well be the best-est chicken I’ve ever had.

(Though I’ve got to admit I seem to say that every time, just like what I say to every girl)

What is Yummy-Tori Chicken?

According to Popeyes, it’s their “signature Cajun chicken topped with a flawless blend of lusciously rich mayonnaise and smokey yakitori sauce”.

Unless you’re a food blogger, you’ll go

But once you open the box of goodness, you’ll go

It’s takoyaki, or what we’ll commonly call those Japanese ball food.

If I’ve not seen the chicken and merely smelled it, I’d have thought that Foodpanda just delivered takoyaki from Popeyes, because it smells exactly like one.

In fact, it looks like one, too.

Can you see two pieces of chicken here?

The fried chicken is filled with so much shavings of dried bonito, it completely covered the chicken and the sauce.

So, does takoyaki dressing matches well with fried chicken?

Turns out it’s as matching as Christoper Lee and Fann Wong.

Taste Test

I was a little skeptical as I can’t imagine how it’ll fare: takoyaki is soft and fried chicken skin is crispy. It’s almost like a repeat of the #CrispyRendangGate: can takoyaki dressing work on a crispy chicken?

I took a bite and wow.

Just wow.

Simply because I bit into the sauce, as it blends into the skin well, almost like Korea fried chicken minus the greasiness.

Those shavings of dried bonito aren’t the star here, as the sauce could well be the best-est I’ve ever had. It tastes a little like McDonald’s sour egg yolk loaded fries sauce, and while I know you hate it, you can’t deny that by itself, it’s actually pretty decent.

Put it on a crispy skin and it’ll be perfect (McDonald’s, you reading this?).

However, on my second bite, I couldn’t taste the sauce. With the bonitos covering the chicken, it’s hard to see where the sauce is.

Simply put, the sauce is heavenly but there’s just not enough of it.

The chicken itself is Popeyes’ Cajun chicken, so you either love it or hate it. Since the only difference is the skin, you’ll find yourself downing the rest of the normal Cajun chicken after one minute or so.

But that first minute truly sparks joy (and lots of calories).

Can Try?

Go for it; at $8.90 a meal that comprises two chicken with shavings of dried bonito (those aren’t cheap), a jalapeno bite and a drink, it’s well-worth the money and the calories.
