We can’t deny that festive occasions like Chinese New Year are becoming heavily commercialised.
It’s all about the new clothes, the ang paos, the food.
But there’s just one problem. It seems like less emphasis are being placed on ‘family’.
Reunion dinners are a ‘thing’ not because it’s a good chance for you to sit down there and scroll through IG stories.
It’s meant for the family to come together and enjoy the occasion together.
A/N: please cherish reunion dinners. There are many people in the world who can’t go home for CNY.
To amplify the importance of family, local YouTube channel Viddsee has a number of short films lined up in their latest series “Scene City”. There will be five videos in total, and each focuses on the different festive occasion of each race.
In the first video titled “Run Chicken Run”, child star Zheng Jia Xin (translated based on hanyu pinyin) plays as Peter Yu‘s daughter, while Fiona Xie plays the grown-up Zheng.
The 15-minute film centralises on the theme of the upcoming Chinese New Year.
You can watch it here:
Fiona has only one scene in the film, but she was drawn by the father’s affection when she received the script.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, she is not close to her biological father. In fact, they have not been contacting each other for several years now.
When playing against Peter Yu, Fiona says that she was reminded of her “long-lost” father.
Talking about Chinese New Year, Fiona also said that there were many changes at home last year. The passing of her cousin has taught her to cherish the time spent with her family.
They’ll be flying off to Hokkaido for a family trip after eating reunion dinner. She’ll only return in early March.
Talk about holiday.
When asked if her rumoured boyfriend Julien Leo will be coming along, Fiona smiled and denied that she has a boyfriend.
There you have it, guys! All hopes are not lost yet! This might just be your chance to go woo your childhood sweetheart!
And seriously, did anyone from the 90s get goosebumps when you hear her speak for the first time in the video?
My colleague swore his heart just sped up for the first time in 10 years.
