Westies, are you jealous that the Easties seems to get all the cool stuff?
Like Jewel
A&W
Shake Shack
Etc, etc.
Well, if you’re staying in the west and you agree with me, don’t be jelly any more.
Because in the west of Singapore, near the road leading to Jurong Island, a new gem just opened its doors to the public.
And it’s way more awesome than Jewel because, for one, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to enjoy yourself there; and two, this gem that just opened didn’t almost cause a riot in Singapore.
Lakeside Garden Opens To Public
In case you’ve forgotten, it was mentioned that the west will be Singapore’s national garden in the heartlands.
Named the Jurong Lake Gardens, it’s a combination of Lakeside Garden (formerly Jurong Lake Gardens West), Chinese and Japanese Gardens (formerly Jurong Lake Gardens Central) and Garden Promenade (formerly Jurong Lake Gardens East).
And on 27 April 2019 (which is yesterday, by the way), Lakeside Garden has opened its doors to the public. Yes, all 53 hectares of it.
What Can You Do There?
NParks said that when they developed the place, they focused on nature, community and play.
And Lakeside Garden is a perfect example of that.
Kids can play at the Forest Ramble, a 2.3-hectare area with over 13 adventure stations to have fun at.
Which includes a flying fox
And a two gigantic slides
And it’s not just kids that get to have fun here.

Jealous of reservoirs for having water activities? Well, now, the west has our own.
Managed by People’s Association, you can enjoy water activities like paddle-boating, kayaking and lifestyle programmes on food and beverage, health and wellness here.
Calling out to all fit people, within the Lakeside Garden is an ActiveSG Park.
You can enjoy an integrated lap and training pool, a wading pool, an outdoor fitness area and a gym here.
Take a Relaxing Stroll Here
Other than the host of exciting activities, you can choose to take a stroll through a restored freshwater swamp forest via a boardwalk.
Feel the serenity and bask in views that you rarely get in Singapore.
In fact, one of the writers who volunteered (read: got saboed) to go to the garden said he felt like he was back in Jeju island.
The forest has around 50 species of plants including Rasau trees, Nibong and Sealing Wax palms.
There are also various habitats where grey herons, oriental pied hornbills and smooth-coated otters live.
A Slew of Activities
If you’re staying near the area, why not plan a trip down to the gardens for yourself?
Seeing as the garden has just opened, NParks has organised a series of fun and interesting activities that you might want to join.
These are the activities today:
The activities include yoga workouts, concert performances, local singers performances, lightsaber duels and more, and will continue throughout the week until 5 May 2019.
You can find the full list of programmes here.
Plenty of time for you to make your way down, eh?
You’re welcome!
