Fish Leong Reportedly Officially Divorced After 9 Years of Marriage

The singer’s real name is Jasmine Leong Chui Pen, but adopted the name “Fish” not because she’s a cat, but because the last word in her Chinese name “茹” sounds the same as “魚” (fish) in Cantonese.

Yeah, doesn’t really make sense, but whatever floats her boat, right?

Fish, who hailed from Negeri Sembilan, met her husband, Taiwanese wine merchant Tony Chao, though her manager, and they got married in 2010.

In 2014, they had a son, Anderson Chao.

Of course, you can tell that since she became Mrs Chao, her musical career had been on hiatus until this year, when she released her new album in May.

During an interview, she even mentioned that she might be holding a concert.

If the rumours are anything to go by, Mrs Chao might have become Miss Leong again, which explains why she’s suddenly back.

Rumours of Husband’s Cheating Scandal

On Thursday (15 August 2019), Apple Daily (yes, the publication that got the scoop for the Andy Hui scandal) reported that Fish Leong and her husband are no longer married, and that divorced papers have already been signed, with the couple taking shared custody of their five-year-old son.

According to the report, the marriage was already on the rocks six months ago, when there were allegations that Tony was having an affair with his employee. Back then, Tony immediately refuted the allegations.

When news about the alleged devoice went public this week, Tony simply said this in Facebook: “Tonight I’m going to run 50km.” Later, he posted this: “Thanks everyone for their concern. It’s really no big deal. To live life happily is good enough.”

Fish hasn’t committed publicly about the allegations, but her manager denied the rumours.

Problem Since Two Years Ago

Christine Fan is Fish’s BFF, and according to reports, Christine’s big-mouth manager had told reporters that Christine knew about Fish and Tony’s shaky marriage for at least two years.

And yesterday (16 August 2019), Fish broke her social media silence by posting an image of Christine and her together in Weibo with this caption: “I will always love Fan Fan (Christine). Thank you Fan Fan for supporting me and accompanying me all these years.”
