Amidst the ongoing epidemic, food delivery services have seen a huge boom in business.
And it’s hardly incomprehensible considering how 75% of Singaporeans are being confined to the four walls of their home, with nothing but white rice and potato chips in their closets.
But nothing worthwhile ever comes without a price. To food delivery services, the maximized profits are accompanied by an insane influx of orders and an increased margin of error. And to consumers, convenience and safety meant an increased possibility of mix-ups, late deliveries…
Or even worse, non-delivered orders masquerading as otherwise.
Noah Yap Posted A Complaint Video On Facebook
To an impressionable mind, a celebrity might be perceived to be immune to such minor things as flawed deliveries. But in reality…
They are just as susceptible as the rest of the human population.
On 28 May, local actor Noah Yap, who’s known for his breakout role as IP Man in the highly-popular Ah Boys to Men franchise, posted a rather disgruntled clip where he aired his dissonance with food delivery service Foodpanda, on social media platform Facebook.
In the video, the 26-year-old ranted about Foodpanda’s disappointing delivery service, and laid waste to its trademark riddles, which are supposedly a part of Foodpanda’s customer service.
The 2:19 clip started off opaque enough: Noah states that he’s hungry, tired and disappointed, and addresses the concerns to Foodpanda.
He then detailed the entire chronology of events, from the time of order (12:31 a.m.) to the time the order was indicated as being ‘on the way’ (1:00 a.m.), to the time the order was check-marked as delivered but the food was nowhere to be found (1:20 a.m.).
Suffice it to say; he was disgruntled and unhappy, and thus decided to pursue further action via Foodpanda’s customer service option.
The first person who attended to him, however, started off with a Yogurt pun right off the bat, a notion that allegedly got Noah to roll his eyes “20,000 times”.
And it didn’t end there, as a riddle soon came into play, which got the actor facepalming himself on screen.
“How about you solve my problem first, and don’t give me another problem to solve,” he said.

5 minutes after the attendee promised to check on matters, the chat suddenly got disconnected. This led to a second attendee in tow, who kicked off the chat with another riddle and a request for Noah to check outside his house again.
“I go outside. I look up, I look down, I look left, I look right. It’s like seeing my house for the first time you know? Where is the food?” he said.
He then entered the chat for the “third time”, but it ultimately ended with an unexplained disconnection yet again.
“It’s now 1:36 am, one hour. The food is not here. The riddle is not solved. I’m going to make Maggi,” he ended his rant in a resigned tone.

Foodpanda Has Responded
Following Noah’s outburst, as well as the traction the video garnered (4.8K shares and counting), Foodpanda turned up in the comments section in an attempt to correspond with the actor.
Netizens, however, were not impressed.
Users also seem especially annoyed by the notion that a celebrity was receiving preferential treatment.
Most, however, concurred with the actor’s sentiments and shared their own experiences.
Well, it seems that Foodpanda might just have bitten off more than it can chew this time around. And its attempt at damage control might just have done more harm than good.
Though if there’s any consolation, it’s that the man himself seems appeased by the food delivery service’s action. According to an update, Foodpanda has granted him a full refund as well as a complimentary voucher on his next order.
“Foodpanda has reached out to me and given me a full refund + a complimentary voucher on my next order,” the actor updated his post.
“They have also called the rider to check on him but he did not respond also, hence they will look into the matter and most likely suspend him cuz that’s just unethical and unprofessional af.”
He also left some parting words for the rider in question.
“Thank you for being professional and resolving the issue. To the rider if you’re watching this, i hope you eat nothing but mee sua for the rest of your life since u love it so much and after foodpanda suspends u, pls consider switching career paths to a magician, you disappearing piece of shit.”
This, indeed, is a story of a rider ghosting both the customer and his company.
But wait, it happened at almost 1am, which means there’s a chance that it could be…
