Remember the last time your flight got delayed?
No? Well, you must be one of the lucky ones then. The longest delay I’ve ever experienced was around 40 minutes—and it was because a guy puked all over the passenger before him.
Took them a good half an hour just to clean the place up and convince the guy to disembark. They never did tell us what was wrong with the guy, and I believe most of the passengers weren’t really interested in the reasons either.

I mean, it was a flight to KL. If not for the guy, we would’ve been there already.
However, sometimes the reasons for the delay are really obvious.
Glaringly obvious, if I may add.
On 25 Feb, passengers on a China Southern Airlines flight from Guangzhou to Shanghai had to disembark due to a power bank catching fire in one of the overhead compartments.
China Southern Airlines made a statement on Weibo saying that passengers were boarding flight CZ3539 when smoke and fire was observed coming from a passenger’s bag in the overhead compartments.
The fire was eventually put out by a flight attendant and a passenger with bottles of water and what seems to be juice.
Here, take a look at the video for yourselves.

According to Channel NewsAsia, the owner of the bag was taken by the police to assist in investigations. The power bank was not in use when the fire broke out.
And if you’re worried about the passengers, you’ll be glad to know that no one was hurt in the incident. A replacement aircraft was deployed and the passengers eventually departed 3 hours later, at around 2.53 pm.
Hmm, I actually have no idea if power banks are allowed on airplanes since I don’t carry one around.
Let’s see what SIA has to say about this:

So, as long as the battery does not exceed 160 Wh, it can be brought on as cabin luggage, huh? Hope this info will be useful for those of you who can’t live without an operating phone!
Anyway, please be mindful of how you treat your electronics! I can’t help but think that the power bank went up in flames because the owner mistreated it or something.
