Former behavioural therapist fined S$5,000 for dragging four-year-old boy with special needs

Former behavioural therapist Tricia Lee Hsien, 29, was fined S$5,000 on 28 October 2026 after pleading guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to a minor.

She dragged a four-year-old boy with special needs off his chair onto the floor during a lesson on 13 June 2024.

Incident captured on CCTV

CNA reported that the boy hit Lee’s face three times. After the first hit, she swung her hand aggressively and repeatedly threw a book. She later grabbed his hand and dragged him, causing pain.

Hospital checks found no gross external injuries.

Why prosecutors sought a fine

Prosecutors sought a S$5,000 to S$6,000 fine, describing an isolated act lasting seconds, with low harm and culpability.

The judge accepted low culpability but said Lee knew the child’s condition and could have taken other steps.
