Ever since the infamous Monica Baey case that shooketh the nation over its lack of consequence, nothing has been the same in Singapore.
Cases of peeping toms filming women in toilets/showers are seemingly on the rise. (Especially among students. Why ah? Is it SG studies too stressful?)
Whether these perverts were inspired by the notorious NUS voyeur, or it’s simply a phenomenon of mass confirmation bias – you be the judge.
But regardless, women may start to be a lot warier when using public facilities such as toilets and bathrooms. They might even start to be suspicious of men in general, feeling that there is a surge in sexism against women.
Well, they could not be more wrong. Sex offenders do not discriminate, and men can be made victims just as easily.
Scoot Employee Caught Filming Men In Toilets
27-year-old Alton Keh begun his voyeur journey last year on 18 March, where he recorded a video of a man peeing. Probably overjoyed and satisfied afterwards, he went on to continuously visit public toilets to repeat his actions.
He got away with it for a period of time, but eventually, the jig was up.
On the afternoon of 5 May last year, Alton decided to make one 35-year-old man (unnamed, but we shall call him Batman for stopping Alton) his victim at Chinatown Point.
Alton used his phone to snap a photo of Batman in the cubicle above the partition, but Batman was sharp enough to notice.
Alton quickly deleted the photo, but Batman exited the cubicle and confronted him just as fast.
Batman grabbed Alton’s phone and went through his phone, but instead of his own photo, he found multiple photos and videos of other victims.
“I’m Batman calling the police,” He probably said.
Jig’s Up
After being arrested, Alton was charged with 11 counts of recording an obscene film.
He was also additionally slapped with two charges of public nuisance and one charge of being in possession of a film without a valid certificate.
On Monday (16 December), he was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail and fined $3,000.
He could have been jailed up to two years for filming obscene videos, but I guess his GPA high enough he got lucky.
Here’s to wishing that he’ll turn over a new leaf once he’s out.
Scoot has also since dismissed Alton from their employment though, so he’ll have to find a new job.
“Scoot!” they probably told him.
Get it? Scoot? Heh heh.
