Money makes the world goes round. Money also spoils relationships.

And this might exactly be what Hong Kong actor, Steven Ma, felt after being threatened by a “friend”.

Actor’s ‘Friend’ Threatened Him After He Refused To Lend Money To Friend

A week ago, Hong Kong actor Steven Ma uploaded a lengthy post on his Instagram account:

He spoke about how he was suddenly contacted by a friend whom he had lost contact with for a few years.

They weren’t very close friends.

After exchanging messages for a few days, it turns out that this particular friend had wanted to borrow money from him.

Because they weren’t close friends, he refused to do so.

However, instead of resigned acceptance, Steven Ma received a barrage of threatening messages.

“Please Get On Your Feet”

Now, normal people would’ve been furious and fired back, or at least shame him online.

Steven Ma, however, went about it in a different way.

He hopes that this friend of his will be able to get on his own two feet and face his financial problems.

Don’t speculate in the stock market and gamble your money away, he advised, Greed in these things will only get you into trouble.

He ended off his post with a sentence expressing his hope that his friend will turn out alright in the end.

Well said.

Lending Money To Friends Is A Bad Idea

Unless you want your friendship to end, that is, or you’re not close friends like in Steven Ma’s case.

According to Forbes, more than half of the people who loaned money to their friends ended their friendships.

Nearly 75% of the people who loan from their friends never paid it back.

And let’s be honest here, asking repeatedly for overdue payments is uncomfortable as hell, both for the lender and the borrower.

After all, the only reason why you would put out that loan in the first place is because you guys are pretty close friends.

One good way to overcome all of that is to put your agreement into writing, aka an IOU.

If not, you can always see it as money that you’ll never get back in this lifetime.

So if your friend really kept his or her promise and pay back his loan, your relationship will only get better.
