“Omg, what kind of crazy, ludicrous shit that actually happened in real life, are you gonna show us today?!” Tan Ah Kow shouted from across the street.

Well, today’s weed-infused, crazy-sounding shit would happen to be the attached headline:

Thought meeting your doppelganger’s a real coincidence? Think again.

Fugitive Used NRIC of Another Man for 13 Years & Finally Bumped Into Him

For more than 13 years, James Nalla Rajan Naidu Adhiseshan, 58, lived his life evading the authorities, after slashing a newspaper vendor on the neck.

But it seems that karma does exist out there, somewhere, and the following article you’re about to read…

All but confirms the notion.

But before we proceed into the meat of the story, I’ll have to first state this:

The original offence actually occurred on 28 January 2006.

At 5:30 a.m., Naidu and the newspaper vendor were at a Depot Road convenience store, when the former challenged the latter to a fight.

It’s unclear why Naidu requested a fight in the first place.

Disregarding Naidu’s challenge, the newspaper vendor ignored him and left the store. Naidu promptly followed and started arguing with the vendor, before he pulled out a sharp blade and slashed the vendor’s neck.

Naidu then fled the scene.

Thereafter, he was arrested, but managed to flee before he could be charged in court.

And he became a different person altogether.

Medical treatment

Medical treatment’s a necessity for most of us, and a fugitive’s not excluded, wanted or not. But the question begets;

How will a fugitive get to procure medical treatment without sounding off the alarms?

Well, for Naidu, it seems that the solution’s to procure a copy of another man’s NRIC. Using it, he was able to get treatment at Sengkang Polyclinic on 14, 15 and 22 Aug in 2017, after falling off his bicycle.

In November that year, the battery of Naidu’s e-bike caught fire, and he was sent to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Again, he used the photocopied NRIC, and was warded for a night. He, however, left without paying the bills.

The true owner of the NRIC, Chandran Sinathanmby, lost it many years ago. According to reports, Mr Chandran and Naidu were not acquainted, and it’s not revealed how Naidu managed to get the NRIC.

Is this a Korean Drama?

On 25 Feb this year, Naidu and Mr Chandran were both at Sengkang General Hospital.

Mr Chandran, who was unaware of the impersonation, reportedly saw Naidu in a wheelchair at the hospital and offered assistance. When Naidu’s queue number was called, Mr Chandran then helped wheel him over to the counter.

However, when Naidu handed the photocopy to the staff, Mr Chandran recognised it as his own.

Imagine you helping a guy and it turns out that the guy you’ve helped is using your IC.

Thereafter, Mr Chandran notified the staff, who proceeded to dial the police. Naidu tried to flee, but it was too late. Detained by hospital security, he reportedly continued to lie about his identity.

On 25 June, Naidu was sentenced to 1½ years in jail, on two counts of personation and another count of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon.

For each charge of cheating by personation, he could’ve been jailed up to five years, or fined, or both.

And so… the moral of the story here?

Karma’ll find a way to catch up with you… indefinitely. So do yourself a favour…

Live within the legal boundaries of life, and you’ll be just fine.
