While everyone talked about the death of the newlywed food delivery rider at Gambas Ave, another family was watching their son and brother fight for his life.

Yes, another motorcyclist was involved in the accident too. Sarah Widjaya, the mother of the 20-year-old rider, has since taken to Facebook to share about her son’s condition.

50-50 Chance of Survival

Witnesses of the accident allegedly told Sarah that nobody attended to her son, Muhammad Alif, until two passers-by noticed him and ran to help.

Dashcam footage of the scene also showed that while Alif was in tremendous pain from his injuries, he kept wanting to stand up and help the other rider.

Alif was conveyed conscious to the hospital, where they found out he had suffered internal bleeding, a crushed left pelvis, broken ribs and wrist, lacerations, and torn lips. The doctors gave him a 50-50 chance of survival.

According to Sarah, he is still in the Intensive Care Unit, and has already gone through three major surgeries.

Mental and Financial Strain on Family

Sarah also shared that Alif’s condition has placed a huge strain on the family, especially since they’re a tight-knit family.

Nobody really knows whether he’ll fully recover, and whether his life will ever go back to how it was.

Additionally, the many surgeries are bound to take a huge financial toll on the family. With Sarah taking leave from work and possibly quitting her job to focus on caring for her son, the accident has hit the family extremely hard.

If Alif’s condition remains stable, he’ll undergo yet another “high-risk” operation soon.

Part-Time Nurse Awaiting NS

In an interview with MothershipSarah further shared that Alif was a part-time nurse at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital while waiting to enlist in NS.

He wanted to earn money to fund his studies, as he intended to continue seeking higher education after NS.

The fourth of five children, Sarah shared that Alif is extremely protective of his family. He is someone who hides all his unhappiness to put others’ needs above his own.

This accident has indeed taken a toll on Alif’s four siblings and his parents. But while they are angry and sad that this accident happened, they are, of course, still thankful that Alif was given another chance at life.
