GetGo users can now drive selected GetGo cars into West Malaysia, with the car-sharing company launching its “Drive to Malaysia” service on 1 September 2026.
Eligible users can book a Malaysia-enabled GetGo car through the GetGo app and drive it across the border without visiting a rental counter or paying a mileage charge.
The service covers destinations across West Malaysia, including Johor Bahru, Cameron Highlands and Kuala Lumpur. Users cannot drive the cars into Thailand or any other country.
How The Malaysia Service Works
Users can find eligible vehicles by selecting the “Drive to Malaysia” option in the GetGo app.
The cars available for cross-border travel will already have the required Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and a Malaysia badge displayed in the app.
Bookings must be at least 12 hours long and can last up to five days. Users can make bookings up to 30 days in advance.
Cars can only cross the border through the Woodlands Causeway or Tuas Second Link.
After the trip, users must return the vehicle to its original Singapore home lot. Bookings cannot end in Malaysia.
GetGo also requires users to fill the fuel tank to at least three-quarters before crossing into Malaysia. When returning the car, it must have at least half a tank of fuel, or users will be charged S$35 for every quarter tank short.
Users are responsible for their own fuel costs.
Cross-Border Surcharge Applies
The service comes with a 30 per cent cross-border surcharge on the vehicle’s time charge.
The surcharge is capped depending on the vehicle category and travel day.
For Select vehicles, the cap is S$20 per day on weekdays and the eve of public holidays, and S$30 per day on weekends and public holidays.
For Plus vehicles, the cap is S$25 per day on weekdays and the eve of public holidays, and S$35 per day on weekends and public holidays.
Users can also add a pre-registered co-driver for the trip.
Insurance Coverage Changes
GetGo said its Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) rate will increase for Malaysia trips.
The standard CDW will rise from 5 per cent to 10 per cent, while Enhanced CDW will rise from 10 per cent to 20 per cent.
The company said the changes apply to cross-border bookings.
GetGo Has More Than 500,000 Registered Drivers
GetGo currently has more than 3,000 vehicles across about 1,700 locations, with more than 500,000 registered drivers.
Before the public launch, the company said close to 2,000 existing users had indicated interest within 48 hours after pilot applications opened.
The launch gives Singapore users another option for driving into Malaysia without arranging a traditional rental car collection and return process.
