There are three main things that you’d expect to find in a successful drug raid:
- Drugs
- Cash
- More drugs
After all, if the residents in the unit in question are running a drug operation, they’re probably going to have a boatload of supplies in their house, as well as all the earnings from the illicit deals.
What you’d never expect to find, however, is an infant.
But that’s exactly what officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) stumbled upon yesterday.
6-Month-Old Baby Found in Drugs Raid at Geylang As CNB Seized Over $749,000 Worth of Drugs in Multiple Locations
A whopping S$749,000 worth of drugs were seized by the CNB in their latest round of raids yesterday (28 July).
In total, eight people were arrested in the operations.
It all started yesterday evening when officers arrested a 34-year-old Singaporean man near Gemmill Lane in Telok Ayer.
The man was taken to his hideout nearby, where officers found and seized Ecstasy, Erimin-5 tablets and powder, as well as Ice, the street name for crystal methamphetamine. A 32-year-old Singaporean woman in the unit was arrested as well.
That same evening, CNB officers arrested a 34-year-old male foreign national in a taxi near Chai Chee Street, who was found to be carrying Ice, cannabis, and Ecstasy tablets.
But that wasn’t all, as it was a rather busy evening for CNB.
A 29-year-old Singaporean man was also arrested near Marine Drive that day, where various drugs such as Ice, cannabis, and LSD stamps were found.
He was then escorted to Lorong 23 Geylang, where 19 baked goods believed to be infused with cannabis were seized.
Another group of officers raided a unit near Lorong 41 Geylang, which was the hideout of a 28-year-old Singaporean man whom they arrested earlier at Geylang East Avenue 2.
There, officers seized Ice, cannabis, ketamine, and Ecstasy tablets, as well as baked goods believed to have been infused with cannabis and other controlled drugs.
Another Singaporean man, 33, and two foreign women aged 23 and 25 were also arrested.
What must have shocked officers is that they also found a six-month-old baby in the unit, who is believed to be the child of the 28-year-old man and 25-year-old woman who were apprehended.
In a statement, CNB said arrangements were made to ensure that the infant was taken care of and that he was subsequently placed in the safe custody of a close relative.
Amount of Ice Seized Enough to Feed Addiction of 1,4000 Abusers For a Week
In total, officers seized 2,508g of Ice, which would be enough to feed the addiction of more than 1,400 abusers for a week, CNB said.
164g of cannabis, 7g of ketamine, 54 Ecstasy tablets, 9,831 Erimin-5 tablets and five LSD stamps were also nabbed.
Officers also seized 42 baked goods and crumbs believed to be infused with cannabis, and 111 packets containing substances believed to be controlled drugs.
Investigations into the suspects’ drug activities are ongoing.
The discovery of the six-month-old calls to mind another recent incident where a 10-month-old baby was found in an area where illegal drug activities took place.
Since it was crying, one of the CNB officers helped to make milk for the infant.
Someone should treat those CNB officers to a cup of coffee for their good deed! Talking about coffee here are some facts about caffeine:
