A glass pane fell from the third floor of The Star Vista mall in Buona Vista on Sunday (20 April 2025), injuring six people and causing panic among shoppers and diners.
The incident occurred around 10:55 am, shortly after a morning Easter Sunday service at New Creation Church, which owns the mall.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they received a call for assistance at approximately 11:30 am. Emergency responders assessed six individuals for injuries at the scene.

Four of the injured were transported to the National University Hospital for treatment, while two others declined to be sent to the hospital.
Eyewitness Accounts
Facebook user John Ethan Tong, who was present during the incident, reported that the glass “fell from two levels above and shattered directly over the open seating area of HarriAnns Nonya Table,” a café located on the first floor.
“Customers were quickly evacuated,” Tong wrote, adding that café employees remained behind the counter and were visibly shocked as the glass landed just in front of them.
Mall Response
A staff member from The Star Vista confirmed to Channel NewsAsia that the glass panel fell from between the mall’s second and third levels.
Photos shared on social media showed a large portion of the café’s seating area covered in glass shards, with half-eaten meals still visible on the tables.
Mall staff were observed directing people away from the affected area, while first responders tended to multiple people with head injuries.
Official Investigation
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) reported that the incident involved a non-laminated tempered glass panel.

Initial findings suggest that the glass panel shattered due to spontaneous glass breakage, possibly triggered by a rare occurrence involving microscopic impurities within the glass.
BCA announced its intention to issue a Notice to Maintain to the building owner. This notice mandates the appointment of a Qualified Person (QP) to investigate the incident’s cause, assess the condition of the entire building facade, and recommend appropriate permanent corrective actions.
The building owner must then implement these measures in accordance with the QP’s recommendations.
