Here Are What People in Other Countries Did During Omega X Swatch Launch

The Omega x Swatch collaboration drove Singaporeans crazy; so much so that one even provoked police officers, daring them to shoot him.

@ruitianbear Dude literally told the police in chinese “pull your gun and shoot me la!” Just becuase he can’t get the Omega X Swatch Watch… 😵‍💫 #omega #omegaxswatch #swatch #orchardion #singapore #watch #shootmela ♬ original sound – Bear

But are Singaporeans the only ones going cray-cray over this collaboration?

Are we too bored and overreacting to everything going on nowadays?

Turns out, we’re not.

Malaysia

Right across the border in Malaysia, massive crowds turned up to snatch up a pair (or two) of the BIOCERAMIC MoonSwatch for themselves.

In Malaysia, the only store that sells the Omega X Swatch BIOCERAMIC MoonSwatch watches is located at Pavillion Kuala Lumpur.

While the sale was supposed to start at 10am on 26 Mar 2022, many turned up the night before to queue for the watches.

Thailand

Well, if you thought shouting at police officers was bad enough, how about behaving so rowdily the people behind the Omega X Swatch collaboration decided to cancel the sale?

That was what happened in Thailand on the day of the MoonSwatch sale.

Tensions got high and people in the crowd were reportedly pushing and shoving each other.

It got so bad that Swatch Thailand cancelled its MoonSwatch sales.

According to Khaosod English, the company will sell its unlimited Omega X Swatch MoonSwatch watches at a later date through its online channel.

Japan

Polite the Japanese might be but watch lovers, they definitely are.

In Japan, the MoonSwatch sale was supposed to take place at three outlets:

  • Shibuya and Harajuku in Tokyo
  • Shinsaibashi in Osaka

According to Yahoo News Japan, more than 1,500 people gathered at the Swatch outlet in Shibuya.

Here’s a look at the queue situation on sales day:

Swatch Japan revealed that they were requested by the neighbourhood police to postpone their sales due to safety concerns.

United Kingdom

It’s not just Asians who love Swiss watches; our western counterparts are no different.

In the UK, several hundred people could be seen setting up outside two Swatch outlets—one at Oxford Street and another at Convent Garden.

Here’s a video of the queue at Convent Garden:

Police officers were also reportedly keeping a lookout on the queue situation.

The Netherlands

In the Netherlands, snaking queues can also be seen forming outside two Swatch outlets.

According to a Twitter user, over 2,000 people turned up to queue for the watches where there are only 135 of them available.

It’s Not A Limited Edition

Now, for those who are unaware, the MoonSwatch watches are not limited edition, despite how desperate people seem to look trying to get them.

Swatch Singapore has made sure to emphasise that there will be opportunities in the future to get a MoonSwatch (or three) for yourself.

In other words, there’s no need to try and kill yourself by provoking our poor police officers into shooting you or paying up to S$19,000 for 11 pairs of watches that cost S$372 each.

But at least it’s good to know Singapore isn’t alone in going crazy over the MoonSwatch watches, yes?
