In Singapore, food prices aren’t the only things that are rising, fuel costs are increasing as well, to as high as 40 cents per litre.

Car owners aren’t the only ones that’ll be feeling the pinch, however.

Gojek riders are the first to feel the pinch, but now, Grab riders will also face the same situation.

Grab is Also Imposing a Temporary Extra Fee of $0.50 Due to Rising Petrol Prices

On 25 Mar 2022, Grab said that it’ll introduce a temporary extra charge of S$0.50 from 1 Apr 2022.

The reason for this temporary increase is to help its drivers deal with higher operating costs.

The extra charge will be imposed across all of Grab’s transport services except for taxi services, the private-hiring firm says.

All proceeds of the extra fees will go to the driver, it added.

The extra charge, however, will not apply to Grab’s other services, such as food delivery or GrabMart.

Rising Fuel Costs

According to Mr Alvin Wee, the head of transport for Grab Singapore, the firm has heard from the drivers about rising fuel costs and how it impacted their earnings.

“Our priority is to ensure that our driver-partners earn a sustainable income on our platform.”

Other than the extra charge, Grab also has ongoing commission rebate and fuel discount schemes for partner drivers.

In April, eligible Grab partner drivers can get a one-time discount with Grab’s partner, Caltex, on top of the usual 29% discount.

Delivery-partners from the Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire programmes will also be given 20% fuel discounts.

The company is also committed to looking for different ways to support its drivers.

Grab will continue to “monitor the situation”, Mr Wee assures.

Ride-Hailing Services’ Temporary Price Increases

As mentioned, Grab wasn’t the first ride-hailing service to temporarily increase its prices.

Gojek and TADA have also announced a temporary increase to their ride-hailing prices in a bid to support their partner drivers amidst rising fuel prices.
