The popular bubble tea brand Gong Cha will relaunch in Singapore in 2026, following the closure of all 29 outlets nationwide as of 2 Oct 2025.
The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) has stepped in to address consumer concerns related to unutilised pre-paid and gift cards amidst this transition.
Closure and Relaunch Plans
On 2 Oct 2025, Gong Cha officially ceased operations in Singapore after removing all local social media accounts and taking down its website.
Chief Executive Kang Puay Seng confirmed to Lianhe Zaobao that the company’s franchise agreement with Gong Cha had terminated on 1 Oct 2025.
Gong Cha Global announced that the brand will return with new local franchisees as part of its global “Gong Cha 2.0” revamp.
Consumer Concerns About Pre-Paid Cards
Case has sought clarification from Gong Cha regarding the status of unredeemed pre-paid balances or gift cards held by customers.
Many consumers remain uncertain whether they will be refunded or able to redeem these values once Gong Cha reopens.
Case president Melvin Yong advised consumers to keep detailed records of any pre-paid purchases and balances while awaiting further updates.
Those who need help may contact Case on 6277-5100.
Case has also requested Gong Cha to provide more explicit details about the reopening timeline.
