Grab Services Down & It Affects Grab Food Delivery Riders / Drivers, Too

In the past, when we needed to buy something, we’d head outside to a store to get it.

But these days, whether it’s food, groceries, or a new phone you don’t need, you can buy it from the comfort of your home, while on the toilet, with a few taps of your thumbs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has only increased our dependence on these delivery services, with restrictions keeping more of us at home than before.

Unfortunately, one of the more popular delivery platforms has gone down, and no one knows why.

Grab App Down

Since around 8am today (15 Nov), some Grab users across Southeast Asia have been complaining that the app wasn’t working.

Users said they were unable to book rides on the app and search for locations, and wondered what the heck had happened.

An hour later, Grab responded:

“Dear users, some of our services are not accessible at the moment. We are looking into this and we will update when the app is back up and running. Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience,” it said.

In response to a comment, Grab said that it was experiencing some “technical difficulties” with the app.

“Our engineers are working at full steam to recover the app. Please be patient with us and try again later,” it added.

Complaints came from users in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and of course, Singapore.

However, it’s not just their ride-hailing services that are down.

Food Delivery Riders & Drivers Affected Too

It appears that customers have been experiencing difficulties with their food delivery services too.

This was confirmed in a Reddit post published an hour ago by a GrabFood rider who has been affected by the outage.

According to the rider, the server has been down for them islandwide since 7:30am this morning.

“We are not able to login thus not able to receive any orders,” the rider said.

The rider said that although users still have the option to make food orders, they shouldn’t do so as no rider would receive it.

“Do not order or you will not receive your food,” the rider warned.

Disgruntled users complained in the comments about having no means of transport to get to work, while others chided the ride-hailing platform for the “loss of income” the riders and drivers will incur.

In the meantime, here are some other ride-hailing services and food delivery platforms that you can use:
