Grab to Hire 350 People in S’pore to Deliver Financial Services in S’pore; Offering Mostly Tech Roles

There was one app and service that single-handedly saved some of us last year.

In a time (circuit breaker) where we couldn’t eat out, it grabbed our food and brought it to our doorsteps.

If you caught that little pun, then you know I’m talking about Grab.

And if you’ve ever thought about working for them, you may want to check this out.

Grab to Hire 350 People in S’pore to Deliver Financial Services in S’pore; Offering Mostly Tech Roles

Even more so if you’ve got experience working in finance and are a tech-wiz.

The Straits Times reported that the company is looking to hire roughly 350 people in SG for financial services.

It’s going to be very tech-related, from supporting their digital banking business and micro-enterprises in their digital transformation.

If you got any of the following skills, though, you may want to try grabbing this chance:

  • artificial intelligence
  • cybersecurity
  • data science
  • software engineering
  • project management and design

Hires will be involved in projects to improve the ability of merchants to offer better and tailored products to their customers.

They’ll also work to improve the user experience of the GrabMerchant mobile app.

A spokesman from Grab said that the company will put effort to attract and consider Singaporeans for job positions on merit.

Partnerships For Skills Development

However, Grab isn’t going ahead by itself.

This want for hires came post-signing of a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) between Grab, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Government’s Digital Industry Singapore (DISG).

The MOI will see Grab supporting the local tech ecosystem.

This will be done through the development of the company’s tech talent and research and development capabilities.

But of course, you’ll still need the relevant skills for all of this to succeed.

This is where the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) also comes in.

IMDA will lend a hand through relevant training programmes to grow its core product and engineering teams’ capabilities.

In a joint statement, both companies say this would help develop the skills and even have hands-on experience for those who want to explore the tech sector.

Continuous Development

Technology will always progress as the years past.

Just ask your parents if they’d ever thought a touch-screen phone would’ve crossed their minds in the 20th century.

Grab’s co-founder said despite Covid-19’s, the tech industry is still promising for talents

“We are building products that positively impact millions across South-east Asia, and we want to continue deepening our R&D (research and development) capabilities and push the boundaries of innovation, right here at our strategic base.”

IMDA’s chief executive also hopes that the partnership can help local talent in product development and grow in the quality of R&D in tech.
