Sick and tired of bringing your burdensome pet around?

Craving for a somewhat low-budget ride to ferry that b*tch instead?

Well, Grab might just have your back pet.

Launched today (20 Feb 2019), the beta release of GrabPet will be equipped with drivers who are specially trained to handle pets, as well as insurance for the animals the service carries.

And while its fare admittedly starts at a hefty S$14, Grab believes that the price tag is fair considering all its additional features.

And we’re sold.

GrabPet

For one, GrabPet vehicles will have foldable waterproof backseat covers and adjustable leashes for qualified pets, and are also stocked with towels and air fresheners to ensure a clean and well-maintained environment for both animal and human.

For two, they will, like Grab’s usual car services, be available round the clock and on demand, though this is subject to driver availability.

For three, interested drivers have been undergoing compulsory training to prep for the worst-case scenarios. So if that bitch doesn’t listen to you, at least you’ll have one more person to get bitten alongside. 😉

How will it work though?

The feature will work just like UberPet of old, if you recall.

Simply opt for the GrabPet option, input your pick-up and drop-off points like normal car services, and you’re all set to go!

“What kinds of animals can I carry on GrabPet though?” you ask.

Well, apparently all household pets that are approved by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), with the sole exception of birds, can be transported via GrabPet. Before you scream fowl, however, it’s because the air fresheners used in the vehicles may pose risks to birds.

Here’s a table showcasing some common pets and how they should be ferried.

“Is there a pet quota allowed?”

According to Grab, the number of pets allowed on board depends largely on one single factor: the size of each animal. As a general rule of thumb, GrabPet accepts a maximum of two medium-sized pets (of up to 41cm in length) or one large pet (41cm in length or more) per ride. So if you were hoping to bring all 5 of your labrador dogs for a trip to East Coast Park, you might find it a little hard-pressed.

And just to be clear, you’ve got to be there to accompany and handle your pets. The driver’s your driver, not Nanny McPet.

How does it compare to another existing pet service, RydePet?

If you’ve been wondering about it, here’s a rough breakdown:

At S$14, GrabPet’s fare is certainly comparable to alternatives like RydePet, depending on distance and when you’re chartering a ride.

RydePet, for one, currently charges at a rate that’s up to 25 per cent higher than its normal carpool and ride-hailing car fare. As of now, it’s too early to tell whether GrabPet will be an even more expensive option.

However, what’s clear is that both are likely to triumph professional pet taxi trips in terms of cost price, seeing how the latter can cost anywhere from S$25 to upwards of S$40.

So don’t say bojio ah

If you’ve constantly been on the lookout for a reliable pet carrier service other than RydePet and your conventional professional carriers, GrabPet might just be that one dime you’re looking for.

And guess what? Personal accident insurance coverage, that’s currently free for all passengers on Grab’s transport services, will also be expanded to include your non-human ride companions.

Plus, plus, as part of its launch, GrabPet users can enjoy S$3 off the service with the promo code “LOVEPETS”.

AND IN ITS FIRST MONTH OF ITS SERVICE, GRAB WILL DONATE S$3 FROM EACH GRABPET RIDE TO THE SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS (SPCA).
