A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital on Monday (10 August) after he was found injured in Clementi, with police saying that his injuries were believed to be self-inflicted.
Before police arrived, a 56-year-old member of the public managed to take a knife away from the man and disarm him.
The member of the public was not injured.
Police Received Call for Assistance at About 12:20pm
Police said they received a call for assistance at Block 441B Clementi Avenue 3 at about 12:20pm.
When officers arrived, they found the 34-year-old man lying on the ground conscious and with injuries believed to be self-inflicted.
He was subsequently taken to hospital and was undergoing treatment.
The 56-year-old man who had disarmed him was not injured, but was also taken to hospital conscious as a precautionary measure.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it conveyed one person to National University Hospital and another person to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Witnesses Said a Member of the Public Intervened
Witnesses told CNA that they saw the 34-year-old injuring himself before another man intervened and took the knife away from him.
A photograph taken by a passer-by showed the two men on the ground as a police officer attended to the situation.
CNA also reported that people at the scene attempted to help the injured man after he had been disarmed.
Separately, 8world reported that its journalists arrived at the area shortly after 1pm and saw workers cleaning the scene.
Its report also cited eyewitnesses who said members of the public tried to tend to the injured man after he had been restrained.
Both Men Were Taken to Hospital
The authorities have not indicated that the 56-year-old who intervened suffered any injuries.
Police said he was sent to hospital purely as a precaution.
The 34-year-old remained under treatment when police responded to media queries on 10 August. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
