Grab is reportedly in talks to buy a majority stake in Singapore-based buy now, pay later firm Atome Financial, in a potential deal that could value Atome at more than US$2 billion.
Bloomberg reported on Thursday, 10 September, citing people familiar with the matter, that discussions are ongoing and no final decision has been made.
Representatives for Grab, Atome Financial and its parent company Advance Intelligence Group declined to comment to Bloomberg.
Importantly, the reported US$2 billion figure refers to the potential valuation of Atome Financial. It does not mean Grab would necessarily pay more than US$2 billion for the majority stake.
Atome Has Been Growing Quickly
Atome Financial is part of Singapore-based Advance Intelligence Group, whose investors include SoftBank and Warburg Pincus.
Its best-known service is Atome, a buy now, pay later platform that allows shoppers to divide purchases into instalments at participating online and physical retailers.
In Singapore, customers can choose three interest-free payments, while longer repayment periods are available to eligible users with processing fees.
Atome Financial reported US$470 million in revenue for 2025, an increase of 80 per cent from the previous year. It also said it achieved pre-tax profitability for a second consecutive year.
Its gross merchandise value, which measures the value of transactions processed through its platform, exceeded US$4 billion in 2025, up 60 per cent year on year.
By June 2026, Atome Financial said its annualised net revenue had reached US$800 million, while annualised gross merchandise value had passed US$6 billion.
Grab Has Been Expanding Its Financial Services Business
A deal for Atome would add another sizeable consumer finance business to Grab’s expanding financial services operations.
Grab reported that revenue from its Financial Services segment increased 59 per cent year on year to US$134 million in the second quarter of 2026.
Its gross loan portfolio reached US$2.3 billion during the quarter, nearly three times the US$781 million recorded a year earlier. Grab said the growth came from increased lending across GrabFin and its digital banks, including Indonesia’s Superbank.
Grab has also been making acquisitions.
In July 2026, it completed its acquisition of US digital investing platform Stash Financial. Grab had announced the deal in February, with the payment for an initial 50.1 per cent stake based on an enterprise value of US$425 million and the remaining interest to be paid for over the following three years.
Separately, Grab agreed in March to acquire Delivery Hero’s foodpanda delivery business in Taiwan for US$600 million in cash. The transaction was announced as being subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions.
For now, though, a Grab takeover of Atome remains only a reported possibility.
Bloomberg’s sources said deliberations were continuing as of 10 September, meaning the talks could still change or end without an agreement.
