We’ve all heard of stories by customers who have had an unpleasant experience with food delivery services.
Some had instances of food arriving with gravy dripping everywhere. Others were left hangry as their orders got delayed.
Worst, some customers were embroiled in loanshark harassment to extort money using food delivery. Several orders would be made and sent to the same address, causing annoyance for owners.
For this customer though, he was positively surprised to receive a kind gesture from one rider.
GrabFood rider goes the extra mile to buy birthday candles for customer’s cake
On June 19 (Sat), Bob Mubarak Nasir shared on Instagram that he had placed a cake order via GrabFood.
Unfortunately, Bob forgot to request candles before ordering the food on the app.
So who do you naturally turn to for help? The next closest point of contact would obviously be the rider.
He messaged Nabil, his rider, asking if he could help ask the bakery if they could issue birthday candles for the cake.
However, Nabil told Bob that the bakery does not provide any candles along with the order.
Well in a normal setting, the conversation would probably just end there.
The rider would deliver the cake without candles to the customer. The customer would then separately source for candles him or herself.
Not this time, though. Because this rider went the extra mile.
Yup, Nabil was prepared to go on a mission to get those candles.
Went forth to offer to find candles
With his gracious heart, Nabil told Bob to “give him a few minutes” as he’s going to find the candles out of his own initiative
Even though Bob told him there’s no need to inconvenient himself, Nabil persisted. He even assured the customer that it “wouldn’t be a trouble at all”.
Surprise surprise, Nabil eventually delivered the cake alongside a set of candles, as per what the customer required.
Spoil market sia bro, but kudos to you!
Bob mentioned that as a consumer, he often gets “complacent” without realising that their work is not easy. While it may seem like a trivial thing on the rider’s end, Bob felt super heartened by the gesture.
Food delivery riders often risk their lives travelling on the road to deliver food to us. Let’s take this chance to reflect upon ourselves and be grateful to these unsung heroes.
