You may have already seen a viral clip of a punch-happy GrabFood deliveryman over the weekend. But if you haven’t, here’s a quick summary:
A GrabFood deliveryman was caught in an altercation with a male passer-by outside Yishun’s Masjid Darul Makmur Mosque. The former was filmed raining several blows on the latter, who backed away quickly.

After the outburst, the deliveryman turned around and walked away. For some reason, the other man followed.

GrabFood Rider in PMA Stood Up to Punch Pedestrian Who Used Phone While Walking
The aforementioned situation was, for the most part, unclear. However, a more recent video has shed some light on the situation.
Earlier yesterday (16 July 2023), a video of the incident, which was taken from the seeming perspective of the man who was getting hit, surfaced on Facebook page SGRV FRONT MAN.
In the clip, the GrabFood rider could be heard yelling in a mix of Mandarin and English.
From the looks of it, the GrabFood rider and the unknown man had conflicted over the right of way.
Apparently, the unknown man had purportedly been busy with his phone while walking.

When the GrabFood rider tried to leave in his Personal Mobility Aid (PMA), the unknown man stood in his way and asked him to wait for the police.
During this time, an elderly woman appeared to be holding the rider back. She also instructed him not to leave, saying that the police would decide the one who was in the wrong.
“Why You Kick My Car For What?”
The GrabFood rider then shouted, “Why you kick my car for what?”
He then repeated it again, but this time in a louder and fiercer tone.
The rider subsequently got off his PMA and headed towards the man, who was backing away at this point.

They then got into a light scuffle before the rider took off his cap in apparent anger and raised his fist.
The rider proceeded to rain several blows on the unknown man.
During this period of time, the elderly woman could be heard shouting desperately.
After the rider was done, he began walking back. The unknown man followed and could be heard saying to another passer-by, “Eh, this fellow punched me, you know.”
The woman then said to the rider in Mandarin, “Don’t care about him. I told you…” The voice becomes muffled towards the end, but she may have been saying, “I told you not to care about him.”

The incident is stated to have occurred on 13 July 2023 in the late afternoon. The video has since garnered over 57K views.

Context
More contextual information emerged after various Netizens shared their own experiences with the GrabFood rider in the comments section of the post.
Apparently, the rider lives in the Chong Pang area and has special needs.
Though he’s said to have a tendency to shout at his parents, he’s perceived as friendly and greets people first.

Because of his condition, however, he needs to be accompanied by his parents. Though unconfirmed, it’s speculated that the elderly woman in the video is actually his mother.

Controversies concerning GrabFood riders have been a little prevalent of late.
Just last month (June 2023), a GrabFood rider allegedly tossed an order onto a shoe cabinet in a fit of anger.
He was later banned from the service.
