Hey look guys, it’s my favourite acronym.
PMD (Personal Mobility Device).
Topics regarding PMDs have been all the rage both on the streets and here at Goody Feed.
Block fires, potential bans and even life-ending accidents have all been linked to PMDs.
Luckily, today isn’t something so fatal but still something for all of us to keep a note about.
And to add to our 17-page long keyword search on our site.
PMD On PIE
What’s more spooky? Seeing a white, floating figure on the roadside or a PMD user on the main road?
A video posted by Facebook user Kurt Guo shows a man wearing a GrabFood T-shirt is seen riding an e-scooter on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE).
You can watch it here.
Kurt said that he saw the rider on the PIE, at the Upper Serangoon Road exit, at about 7.50pm on 19 October.
Why is this spooky? Well, I’ll get to that in a bit.
The video garnered over 11000 views and caught the eye of GrabFood, who mentioned that they would look into it.
Also, proof that we do not question GrabFood’s efficiency?
The PMD rider can be seen coming to a half at the road divider.
He then makes a precarious left turn past the oncoming traffic. Pretty sure that isn’t safe. At all.
Now we get to the real spooky stuff.
Spookily Illegal
Because what’s a news piece in Halloween month without some scares?
Scary how? Well, to know that it’s been illegal for PMDs – such as e-scooters and hoverboards – to be used on roads since 15 January 2018.
PMDs can only be used on footpaths, good readers. Heck, even bicycles can’t be on the expressway.
First-time offenders can be fined up to $2,000, jailed for up to three months, or both.
This is something easily avoidable if you just, I don’t know, follow the rules?
But I can run my mouth here, yet the truth of the matter is that there are as many as 700 such cases in the first nine months of the year.
Some people say hauntings come from ghosts and I agree.
The scariest haunts, personally, come from your few thousand dollar fines and jail time.
