Frequently topping up your GrabPay Wallet because you want to enjoy the reward points when you spend with it?

Well, you might have less of a reason to do that now, especially if you’re a Visa credit card user.

Grab Will Charge $1 if You Top Up Your GrabPay Wallet with Visa from 1 June 2021

On 10 Mar 2021, Grab uploaded a new Facebook post which made a lot of people angry.

“From 1 June, a $1 processing fee will be charged for GrabPay Wallet top-ups made using Visa credit cards.”

The reason, the ride-hailing firm-turn-lifestyle app says, is due to the service costs levied by the service provider.

According to our non-existent Detective Conan instincts, it seems like they’re saying Visa is now levying fees against Grab, and some (or all) of the cost is directed to consumers.

The processing fee will be waived, however, if you top up above S$400.

Only For VISA Credit Cards

Comments on that particular post is, of course, less than complimentary.

While some asked if the costs are fully borne by consumers, others took this opportunity to complain about the recent problems they had with Grab services.

One netizen, however, was firm in his comment:

Well, Grab has anticipated the less-than-happy response, and took the time to explain that top ups via other services are still free of processing fees.

If you use:

  • MasterCard or American Express Credit Card, or any debit cards
  • Transfer it from other GrabPay users
  • or Bank account top ups via PayNow VPA or UOB linked accounts

The GrabPay Wallet top up will remain free.

For those who are curious about what’s PayNow VPA, it’s like PayNow, except for your own Grab Wallet.

To set it up, all you have to do is to set up your Grab Wallet as a payee (+65[Your Mobile Number]#GRAB) and you can perform seamless transfer from your bank account to your Grab Wallet.

For free.
