Haidilao is popular for its excellent customer service, free items for you if you say a certain embarrassing phrase and its free dishes for your party during a certain event.
If you love the restaurant chain, a piece of recent news from Weibo might have upset you.
Despite Global Closure, Haidilao Isn’t Closing Any Outlet in S’pore & Is Opening 2 More Instead
Exactly one week ago, an announcement was made on Haidilao’s social media post, declaring that the company will shut down 300 outlets by the end of this year.
This may have moved the grounds for Haidilao fans here as they wonder: does that mean they won’t get their free fairy wands in the future?
However, we are here to calm these minds down as Haidilao has no plans to close any of its branches in Singapore.
In fact, Haidilao will be opening another two branches here in 2022.
Current HaiDiLao Outlets
Currently, Haidilao has 17 outlets:
- Paya Lebar Quarter
- City Square Mall
- Bugis +
- Marina Square
- Marina Bay Sands
- Novena
- Plaza Singapura
- Clarke Quay
- 313@somerset
- Bedok Mall
- Wisma Atria
- Century Square
- The Seletar Mall
- VivoCity
- IMM
- JCube
- Sun Plaza
Although there were no announcements as to where the two new outlets will be opened, TODAYonline found a new outlet under construction at Northshore Plaza I in Punggol.
Closure Mostly Affects Outlets in China
As mentioned in the previous article, no closure announcements were made on Singapore’s Haidilao Facebook page. This is because the closure will mostly affect the outlets in China.
Some of the closures will also affect the restaurants in other countries.
Despite the mass closure, there will be no layoffs involved. Staff in the outlets that closed will be transferred to another part of the business.
Haidilao
Haidilao International has over 1,597 restaurants operating around the world as of 30 June. This includes non-Asian countries such as Australia, the United States and Canada.
As expected, most of HaidiLlo branches are in China. A large number of restaurants they currently have is the result of the rapid addition of restaurants in 2020 – they opened an average of about 1.5 new restaurants daily back then.
After such rapid expansion, Haidilao decided to slow its business expansion plans due to the falling table turnover rates and profits.
“If the average table turnover rate of Haidilao restaurants of the group is less than 4 times per day, no new Haidilao restaurants will be opened on a large scale in principle,” the group said.
Last Friday, HaidiLao International also said that it will be launching a new plan focused on improving its operations of existing stores. There was no timeline given for this plan.
