Sembawang Residents Created Scary Theme Along Their Corridor

You know Halloween is around the corner when Universal Studios Singapore start promoting their Halloween Horror Nights exhibition and Starbucks started coming up with their Halloween drink, Spook-a-ccino.

Although we do not go door-to-door demanding candy on our little red dot, certain residents in Singapore still celebrate Halloween.

Sembawang Residents Created Scary Theme Along Their Corridor

Located at Sembawang, a group of residents created their own Halloween horror night along an HDB corridor.

From decorations that feature nightmare-inducing horror show characters like Valak from The Nun to slightly less scary ornaments like a floating skull, the corridor is filled with Halloween related items, as shared by their MP Ong Ye Kung:

One of the most creepy decorations displayed in the corridor is a long-hair person creeping from the corners of a wall. Some netizens called it the SDA inspector, checking if you have your mask on or not.

Blood-stained paper tools and the phrase “Turn Away” were hung on the walls along with some prop spiders as well. Maybe the real spiders will be happy that they have a new friend.

Mr Ong applauded the residents behind the red corridor for keeping the kampung spirits alive in his Facebook post.

Other Festivals

This is not the first time residents decorated an HDB corridor.

Earlier this year a Malay resident, Mr Abdullah, decorated his fourth-floor corridor at Tampines with Chinese New Year decorations to thank his neighbours for supporting his family after the passing of his father in December 2020.

During the period, Mr Abdullah’s family had to move elsewhere temporarily as their flat did not have enough room. Throughout their absence, his neighbours kept the corridor in front of their unit clean and even watered their plants.

Mr Abdullah was appreciative of their actions. He also put up similar decorations in the corridor for Hari Raya each year to share festive cheer with his neighbours.

His decorations got so popular that even neighbours from the 11th storey went down to admire them.

Mr Abdullah spent around SS$100 to decorate the corridors. Some of the nearby shops also provided him with festive ornaments and fresh flowers.

His neighbours enjoyed the decorations and felt that these decorations did a great job in cheering them up, especially after a long year living with COVID-19.
