If there’s one thing that Singapore has a lot of, other than budget surplus, it’s HDB flats.

In fact, more than 80% of Singaporeans live in HDB flats, according to Wikipedia.

That being said, it means that the majority of us have experiences in dealing with neighbours.

Some are nice, and they share food with you. But some are monstrous, and they haunt you day and night.

Today, I’m going to share with you a living nightmare.

Note: This story was submitted to Stomp by Stomper Andy. Let’s just call him Andy.

Andy has been living in Geylang Bahru for over twenty years.

For the first ten years, he was on good terms with his elderly female neighbour.

But when her husband died in 2008, the lady started to become a little…crazy.

In the same year, she brought in another man in his 70s and they currently live together.

Andy assumes that he is her boyfriend.

Don’t judge, y’all! Who says you can’t find true love when you’re old?

Things she did…

Don’t underestimate the power of old aunties!

The elderly woman would scatter rice, salt, and soapy water on the corridor outside Andy’s flat.

Someone tell me why is she wasting food when so many kids are dying of hunger???

Watch this horrendous act here.

But her limit does not stop there.

She would also hurl verbal abuse on Andy and his family, and use utensils to create a ruckus in the early hours of the morning.

That’s her throwing a pot on the ground (repeatedly):

She even cursed Andy in Mandarin, saying that she hoped that ‘his whole family dies’.

Well…I’m pretty sure her age…okay never mind.

Listen to her ‘talk show’ here.

Reporting

Luckily for Andy, the majority of these acts were caught on the CCTV.

So he used these materials to seek help from the authorities, and this has been on-going for many years.

“We called the authorities so many times already, but nothing can be done.  They advised us to take legal actions, but we’re so busy working every day, we really have no time and energy to do this.

“All the videos of her harassing my family are evidence but still nothing can be done.”

Oh boy, the justice in me is boiling.

How it all started

Andy said that it all started when his family burned incense paper at their own doorstep.

Andy said that the neighbour complained to the House and Development Board (HDB), claiming that ashes flew into her house.

She obviously didn’t close her door then. But whatever

She then allegedly threw Andy’s joss paper burner and threw it away at the void deck.

“I threw it away. What can you do?”

After that, Andy and his family stopped burning incense paper at their home.

Like how the saying goes,“do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.

This lady decided to burn her own joss paper too.

And it’s pretty obvious that she is trying to get back at him, cos according to Andy, she shifted her burner close to his bedroom window so that the ashes would fly in.

Oh boy.

She only moved the burner indoors after Andy reported her to the authorities.

“Sometimes, she would go near the service ducts and make a din with cooking pots and pans. She knows that our room is located close to the duct,” Andy said.

“We tried talking to her daughter, but she just told us to ‘shut up’.”

“Every morning, she makes a din to make us angry and tired even before we start working.”

“I work as a driver and this can potentially be a safety hazard.”

Thoughts

Well technically, if Andy cannot tahan anymore, perhaps he should really take some time off and do something about it?

But I would say that we don’t know the full story to this, so let’s just wait and find out how this ends up.
