Squid Game, step aside; these days, Hellbound has taken over and now there may be a season two coming up.
Everything About Hellbound Season 2, Which Will Come in a Webtoon First
Hellbound is a Korean drama on Netflix that surpassed Squid Game and became the number one most-watched show within 24 hours.
In case you are unaware, as “new” as it may be, the show has also ended but here’s some good news for all you fans: there may be a season two coming but it’ll come in the form of a webtoon first.
Before you read on, some spoilers may be unveiled so if you have not watched the first season, you should watch that first.
Hellbound Season 2
The final moments of the first season complicate what we know about the supernatural world. As we know, a good movie always needs a good twist.
Essentially, we saw:
- Park Jung Ja who was previously dragged to hell was resurrected despite being burnt to death
- Parents, Bae Young-jae and Song So hyun, sacrifice themselves for their newborn baby. The baby was soon taken to safety in a cab.
In short, no one knows what the monsters are or how they function. With this cliffhanger, season two could be taken in any direction from how Park returns from her gruesome death to the truth behind these monsters for we know, they are no angels from god.
Considering that the plot is set up in a dystopian future, anything could happen in season two. However, it would not be happening so soon.
Currently, the future of this k-drama is undetermined by Netflix, so we can only wait.
If Netflix decides to not do season two of the show, they may be done through other platforms as the intellectual property rights of Hellbound belong to the director, Yeon Sang-ho and illustrator, Choi Kyu-Seok. Maybe on Disney+? #justsaying
On the other hand, you may have to read the webtoon first before you watch the show just like in season one.
Hellbound Webtoon
In case you did not know, Hellbound was adapted from a Naver webtoon (a form of an online comic in Korea) and an animated short film. The animated short film is created by Yeon in 2003.
There were two parts to the animated short film – one was made in 2003 and one was made in 2006. There’s no official site which you can watch this short film but you still can watch the bits and pieces of them on YouTube.
Although this animated short film may seem like the start of Hellbound, it does not actually follow the same story as the Netflix series. Instead, the Naver webtoon does.
Because it was created by Yeon and Choi, the webtoon will feel like you’re reading a storyboard version of the live-action adaption.
