Okay, it doesn’t get any better than this.
Before anything, here’s some context for the uninitiated: combat boots are the shoes that we wear with our army uniform. There have been so many versions of it that I don’t even know what version I’m wearing—all I know is that every ICT, I’ll just buy a new pair, because #emartcreditsFTW.
Combat boots have become a staple in our army days, because while they’re great in the jungle, they’re also a pain in the ass foot: wearing them take time, driving with it makes you lose your “fewling” and it’s best friend with foot rot.
Here’s how it looks like.
Oh, sorry, my bad: this is a pair of designer shoes by atas high-fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent YSL. If you’re not a fashionista and don’t know what the heck it is, just take a cue from Wikipedia: it’s a brand that is on par with Chanel, Burberry, Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada.
Wait, what? So YSL has a pair of shoes that I kind of have in my house as well?
And the price? A whopping SGD$1,191.
I think I can buy about 16 pairs of combat boots with that money.
But let’s not be so judgemental and look at its description. Maybe there’s something special, like the laces are made of gold.
“A luxurious take on a classic military design, Saint Laurent’s combat boots have been meticulously crafted in Italy from sleek black leather. They have padded cuffs to ensure a comfortable fit and are finished with sturdy rubber lug soles for exceptional grip on any terrain.”
Oh. If even youtiao can be hipster overseas by playing with strong adjectives and adverbs (I’m looking at you, Apple), then I guess the $1,191 price tag is worth it.
Anyways, I’ve a chiong-ed (get it?) version at home. I know I can’t sell it, but I’ll meticulously craft it in Singapore so it won’t be a pair of SAF combat boots: it’s a luxurious take on a pair of classic combat boots. Any taker?
