64YO Man Allegedly Threw A Standing Fan, Plastic Chair & Other Household Items from the Sixth Floor

Ever since we were young, our parents would advise:

“Never, under any circumstance, walk under an HDB estate.”

“It’s for your own good,” they would caution with exaggerated fear.

But because we were young, we never understood what they truly meant…

Until now.

64YO Man Allegedly Threw A Standing Fan, Plastic Chair & Other Household Items from the Sixth Floor

It’s bad enough to throw assorted CDs out of your unit window.

But to throw an entire fan as well?

We’re just thankful that there’s no casualty.

On 8 September 2021, the police received a call at around 11:49 am.

Someone had reportedly thrown household items down from the sixth floor over at Block 33, Bendemeer Road.

Apart from a plastic yellow chair, the items also included assorted CDs and an entire standing fan.

Other miscellaneous items were also found on the ground.

After arriving at the scene, the police swiftly traced the objects to a 64-year-old man.

The suspect was subsequently apprehended for the rash act, voluntarily causing hurt to dissuade a public servant from carrying out his duty and seeming drug-related offences.

Investigations are currently ongoing.

Surprise

The revelation came as a surprise to neighbours, who expressed that the 64-year-old man did not come across as such a person.

Describing him as a non-violent person, one said that he was also receptive to greetings and did not make much noise.

The 64-year-old man is also thought to live alone, though that’s not entirely rare in the building. Many of the seniors at the block are thought to dwell alone.

For committing a rash act that could compromise the safety of others, he could face a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to S$2,500 or both.

For voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from carrying out his duty, one can face a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, caning or any combination.

Killer Litter

Unfortunately, such instances aren’t as rare as we would prefer.

In fact, in 2020 alone, there were 366 reported cases, with the likes of flower pots, bamboo poles and household items constituting killer litter.

In other instances, residents have also hurled sound systems, rice cookers and even kettles.

And back in 2017, a man had hurled dumb-bells from the 22nd floor of an HDB block in Jalan Kayu.

A parked Toyota Hi-Roof van’s windscreen ended up being shattered by the impact.

The man was eventually sentenced to a month’s jail time for the offence, and was also handed an S$800 fine for a separate charge of using abusive language on an officer.
