With the internet, you’ll see many people doing all kinds of stuff to get attention online.
But this woman crossed the line when she allegedly faked getting robbed on a Facebook live video in Malaysia.
Here’s what happened.
Grace Lam Nga-Si, Hong Kong Celeb Allegedly Got Robbed on Facebook Live Stream
According to Oriental Daily, Grace was in KL for an assignment when she decided to live-stream her experience on Bentong Walk.
The video started out innocently enough, with her asking viewers who tuned in to the live video if they can guess where she’s currently at right now.
The exciting moment came at the end of the video where a male snatched her handbag and ran off.
After the incident, she told the Hong Kong media that she was robbed while doing the Facebook live video.
She reportedly claimed that she was lucky her manager and some local friends managed to catch the thief, saying that nothing was lost.
Plot-Twist: A Facebook Post Saying She Apologises For The Misunderstanding
And you’d think: that was it. Another victim of the poor public security in Malaysia. Expected.
Plenty of Malaysians were lashing out at the authorities about the poor safety on Malaysian streets.
But wait, there’s more. Suddenly, her behaviour took an 180-degree turn.
Here’s the translation:
“Thank you for your concern, everyone. What happened at Malaysia yesterday was a misunderstanding. I’m sorry for the incident. If there is anything I’ve done wrong, I apologise.”
Maybe her conscience finally appeared and she’s truly remorseful. Or the video might have got so “hot” she’s afraid the Malaysian authorities will start investigating.
Either way, she changed her tune and apologised for the “misunderstanding” she has caused as well as the damage she has dealt unknowingly.
Serious backlash, Facebook account removed
Well, shit has officially hit the fan.
The incident was subsequently proven to be a prank and Malaysians are up in arms against this Hong Kong actress.
The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) asked for her to be barred from the country. They’ve also asked that she be investigated by the Royal Malaysian Police for criminal defamation.
“As a public figure, she had shown a bad example by purposefully lying to the people. By doing so, she had caused the image and reputation of Bentong and Malaysia to be tarnished,” said a statement from the party’s presidential council yesterday.
The council argued that although Lam has apologised, the apology had not served to repair the damage she caused.
Her Facebook account has since been removed.

One thing for sure, she confirm-plus-chop is an actress. ‘Coz her expression when her handbag was snatched is on point.
