A lovely evening shop around Jurong Point and getting some bubble tea turned into an unexpected accident: a hoarding board outside a BHG unit undergoing renovation at Jurong Point fell, and injured three passers-by.
Here’s what happened.
Wooden Hoarding Board with Metal Frame Fell, Injured 3 People
The unit, which was on the third floor of Jurong Point, is leased to BHG department store and is currently undergoing renovation. BHG said that contractors had put up the hoarding board to facilitate reinstatement works, so the unit can be returned to the mall.
At about 5:50pm on 24 February, the hoarding board outside the unit fell. A witness who was working opposite the affected unit told The Straits Times that he saw the middle of the board give way first. It fell on a man who was standing at the nearby railing.
As you can see from the picture below, it seems like the wooden hoarding board had a metal frame.
Jurong Point’s operations and security teams responded immediately to give assistance to the injured shoppers. A 34-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were taken to the hospital conscious, while another person suffered minor injuries and didn’t want to be hospitalised.
The two were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and were discharged the next day.
BHG has since reached out to the shoppers to offer their apologies and assistance.

Reinforcement Works Carried Out, Investigations Ongoing
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said it was investigating the accident. The ministry has instructed mall operator Mercatus Co-operative to conduct thorough checks and ensure all hoarding boards are installed properly.
Jurong Point said that reinforcement works have been done to the hoarding boards, including at levels one and two where hoarding boards are also in use.
Additionally, BHG has said that all renovation works have been stopped until the authorities are done with the investigation.
