Some Hotels in S’pore During F1 Period Cost Over $3,000 a Night

With the Formula 1 (F1) period finally coming soon after what seems like forever, it’s no surprise that the tickets have been in great demand.

And so have hotel rooms for hotels in the area for the race period, which will be held from 30 September to 2 October this year.

With this year’s F1 being the first in Singapore since 2019, Singapore’s Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations S. Iswaran previously revealed that the tickets for this year’s F1 race have been selling out fast, and that sales have already beaten the record of the 2019 race, which was the last F1 race before the pandemic.

In particular, Singapore’s F1 race attracted 268,000 spectators in 2019, making it the F1 race with the second-highest number of spectators of all time in Singapore.

The highest number of spectators was recorded in 2008, when some 300,000 people turned up for the race.

Apart from that, the percentage of tickets sold to foreign spectators is currently around 40%, and this value is about the same percentage as the pre-pandemic races.

With the number possibly rising in the coming days, this will also mean that the demand for accommodation in the area will increase as well since these spectators will be flying in from overseas.

And as all seasoned F1 fans will know, it takes more than just booking tickets to make the most out of your F1 experience.

For those who are keen on staying near the F1 track at Marina Bay during the race period to soak in the atmosphere (and even watch the race from your hotel room), you might have already booked your hotel room in advance.

But if you haven’t, be prepared to fork out a hefty sum of money if you still want to enjoy yourself in such a manner.

The reason?

Some hotels in the Marina Bay area have already run out of vacancies, while others have raised their prices

Hotels that No Longer Have Vacancies

As of this morning (15 September), the following hotels in the Marina Bay area are amongst those that no longer have room vacancies for three-night stays starting from 30 September (with the check-out day being on 3 October):

• Hotel Swissôtel The Stamford
• The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore
• Raffles Singapore
• Conrad Centennial Singapore
• The Fullerton Hotel
• The Fullerton Bay Hotel
• Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay
• Pan Pacific Singapore

Hotels that Still Have Vacancies

And for the hotels that still have vacancies based on their websites, they’re like what I mentioned earlier.

JW Marriott will be charging $10,643 for a guest room facing the Marina Bay area, which averages out to over $3,000 per night.

For comparison, the hotel usually charges around $400-$500 per night, meaning that the hotel’s rooms will cost six to seven times more during the F1 period.

As for Mandarin Oriental, only the suite facing the Marina Bay area is available and will cost $11,652, a large leap from its usual price of around $6,000 for a three-night stay.

Andaz, another hotel in the area, only has suites available as well at the same price as Mandarin Oriental.
