Being asked to clean your room can often be an irritating affair. Whether it’s nagging family members or well-intentioned friends, their requests can often be unpleasant to hear.
But a man in Hougang decided to take matters to the extreme, pulling out two knives and threatening those who told him to remove his junk.
Now, please: don’t try this at home.
Neighboring Shop Assistants Advised The Man to Clear His Things & Smoke Elsewhere
At around 11 am on 1 July, the man was seen hurling insults and threats at the clothing store assistants after being asked to clear the pieces of cardboard and junk accumulating outside their shop.
A clothes shop assistant, who declined to be named, told Shin Min Daily News that before the incident occurred, she found the man lying outside their store at Block 682 Hougang Avenue 4.
After telling him to remove his trash away from the shop, he grew increasingly agitated and started smoking a cigarette while scolding her harshly.
Upon asking him to smoke somewhere else, the man’s threats grew harsher and harsher before he finally pulled out a knife. He waved the knife at the shop assistant, looking to pick a fight with her.
When the man realised no one was paying attention to his threats, he escalated the matter by pulling out another knife.
While she did not sense any real intention of causing harm coming from the man, the shop assistant decided to inform the authorities.
The man was subsequently arrested for causing criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty.
Thankfully, no one was injured when the incident took place.
A Fire Had Previously Broke Out in the Man’s Flat Due To Hoarding
A day before the incident, the Shin Min Daily News had actually arranged an interview with the man in his flat at Block 682 Hougang Avenue 4.
A fire had broken out in the flat some time ago.
The flat was cleaned out for a period of time before being filled to the brim with trash and junk by the hoarder once more.
The interviewer reported the faltto be so filled with trash that the door was sealed off, with the man having to climb out the window with the help of a chair to participate in the interview.
The man’s hoarding behaviour may have been a reason for the cardboard and trash spilling out and accumulating in front of the neighbouring clothes shop, setting the scene for the subsequent incident.
But as for the smoking incident…well, let’s just say it’s just another Saturday in Singapore.
