On 11 September, former actor Ng Aik Leong, also known as Huang Yiliang, was charged with driving without reasonable consideration for other road users following an accident involving a cyclist.
The incident occurred on 20 September 2023.
Ng, 63, was reportedly driving a van when it collided with a 27-year-old male cyclist at around 8:20 pm. The cyclist is believed to have had the right of way at the time of the accident.
The collision took place as Ng was turning from Cavenagh Road onto Bukit Timah Road, heading towards Serangoon Road.
The cyclist’s injuries are not revealed.
Ng has been released on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to return to court on 15 November.
If found guilty, he could face up to two years in jail, a fine of up to $5,000, and a five-year driving disqualification.
Not the First Brush With the Law
In November 2020, Huang was accused of attacking a Bangladeshi worker named Jahidul, an employee at his plumbing company, with a metal scraper.
Audio recordings revealed that Huang frequently had angry, verbal outbursts against Jahidul.
Huang claimed in court that he had an agreement with Jahidul allowing him to hit the worker “to help (him) improve at work” and that the assault was merely play-acting, but the prosecutor dismissed this as “ridiculous”.
In February 2021, Huang was found guilty of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and sentenced to 10 months in prison.
He began serving his sentence immediately after his appeal was dismissed in February 2022
