Woman Allegedly Found Human Tooth in Meat-Filled Mooncake Bought in a China Supermarket

On 5 September, netizens on the video-sharing platform Douyin found themselves shocked after seeing a video of a human tooth found in a mooncake. A woman in China uploaded the video after she found a human tooth in a meat-filled mooncake she bought from Sam’s Club, a supermarket in Changzhou, China.

Mid-autumn festival might be one month earlier than Halloween, but isn’t it a little too early for Halloween festivities?

In the video, the woman is seen holding what looks to be the said human tooth on a piece of tissue paper, with the meat-filled mooncake in the background.

The worst thing is this — the tooth, according to the woman, did not belong to any of her family members. This means that there’s only one place the tooth could have come from — the mooncake itself.

Yucks…

The woman has since reported the incident to the police.

Mooncake Manufacturer: Such an Incident is “Impossible”

So, what do Sam’s Club and its mooncake manufacturer have to say about the woman’s video?

The supermarket chain Sam’s Club has since launched an internal investigation, and the mooncake manufacturer has handed over its security footage to Sam’s Club as well as local regulatory authorities.

The manufacturer has shared that such an incident is “impossible”. Its spokesperson added that all meat used its its products is thoroughly minced and X-rayed to detect any bone fragments, including teeth.

Further, such an issue had never once occurred in more than a decade of production, according to the manufacturer’s spokesperson.

And, in case you kaypoh and want to find out which mooncake manufacturer was responsible for this, we have bad news — the mooncake manufacturer has not yet been named.

Not the First Time Teeth has been Found in Food Sold By Sam’s Club

You might be surprised to find out that this isn’t the first time someone has found a tooth in food sold by the supermarket chain Sam’s Club.

The popular chain had come under public scrutiny earlier in 2022 when a man from Fujian broke his teeth after allegedly biting into Swiss rolls containing not one, not two, but three artificial human teeth.

Special recipe with extra calcium.

While the supermarket chain promised to launch an investigation after the 2022 incident, the public never heard back from the chain on the investigation’s results.

Sam’s Club was also fined in 2022 for selling mouldy strawberries and offering expired milk powder. In fact, the supermarket chain has been hit with more than 20 fines for several different food safety violations and false advertising since it entered China in 1996.

For now, we can only wait and see what Sam’s Club’s internal investigations, as well as the local regulatory authorities’ investigations, reveal about the tooth found in the woman’s mooncake.
