Scammers take on a variety of forms.
Some try to sell fake goods, pose as the kidnapper of your non-existent child or even just as a person with broken English.
However, some come in the form of the idols people admire.
Like that one time, a scammer tried to pose as Romeo Tan by dubbing over a video and attempted to get money from a Thai woman.
And in some cases, it’s not just an impersonation, it’s actually them.
K-Pop Singer Accused Of Scam Involving Over S$60k
And this person is part of a famous group, too.
Hyeme, formerly a member of K-pop group Blackswan, is being sued by a male fan in his 30s.
She apparently manipulated him into giving her around S$60,400.
Korean entertainment site dispatch noted that the victim filed his complaint on 26 October.
Met In 2018
However, the two were acquainted way before this incident.
They met in December 2018 through social media. Only after trading messages for awhile did they finally meet in person.
The alleged scam then happened in April 2019.
Hyeme supposedly had some family issues and convinced the man to loan her the sum of money.
She also got him to pay for her apartment so she could move out of the group’s dorm, which was around S$1,091 per month.
The man also paid for the apartment’s deposit, which was around S$24,256.
All this just for his idol, just so he could help her supposedly focus on her music career.
Eventually, he got angry when he realised Hyeme was seeing other men in the apartment and demanded she paid back the initial amount of roughly S$60,400.
Hyeme agreed but apparently ghosted him, left the apartment and even changed her phone number.
She is also no longer with Black Swan as her contract expired on 7 Nov.
Black Swan And Hyeme Respond
But that’s just one side of the story.
On 10 Nov, Soompi reported that DR Music, Black Swan’s agency, released a statement regarding the incident.
They mentioned that Hyeme had actually gone to their legal advisor to take action against the man for intimidation, sexual harassment and defamation.
That took a turn.
So, what happened?
According to then, Hyeme did admit to meeting the fan. However, she was scared to meet him because he had persistently asked her for sex.
She also admitted to borrowing the initial sum but that he gave the other things voluntarily.
The singer apparently wanted to return the money by November and that she could prove that she did not meet other men in her apartment.
DR Music is continuing to help her because the incident was “tarnishing a project” and did not want efforts to go to waste.
They’ve also confirmed that Black Swan has stopped any official activities.
This case seems more like a potential k-drama the more it unfolds. Hopefully, more information will be revealed in the future.
As of now, Hyeme’s Instagram account appears to be removed.
