While new faces pop up on our television screens every year, there’s no doubt that there are a few faces that stands out.

For most of us, that’d include Ian Fang, who has been a Mediacorp actor for the past 12 years.

However, the 34-year-old announced yesterday (27 April) that he will be leaving Mediacorp after the end of his contract.

When speaking to 8world Entertainment Lifestyle, Fang disclosed that his last day at Mediacorp would be this Sunday (30 April).

Expressed Gratitude for Those Who Have Helped Him

Fang, a Singapore Permanent Citizen, also took to Instagram to thank those who helped him throughout his career at Mediacorp.

Because, well, if you didn’t document it on Instagram, did it really happen?

He thanked fellow celebrity Dennis Chew for letting him be in a music video and for affirming his passion for acting, as well as other actors like Fann Wong for their help throughout his career.

In particular, he thanked Christopher Lee, who acted as his mentor after getting to know him better through Wong.

When speaking with 8world about his relationship with Lee, he mentioned that he discussed his decision to leave with Lee before confirming that he wanted to leave Mediacorp.

Apart from supporting him, Lee provided him with advice as well.

Fang also recalled how Lee once told him that he should “do the appropriate things at the appropriate age” and that he used to not understand what Lee meant.

However, he now does. He added that he tried to act too maturely when he was much younger but ended up being extremely hard on himself and very unhappy.

He then said that he has since learned his lesson and that such a learning experience cannot be bought with money.

Apart from that, he thanked the casting directors and other staff members who played important roles in his life at Mediacorp.

Lastly, when speaking to 8world, he thanked his fans and Mediacorp for taking care of him over the past 12 years.

He also clarified that he made his decision after reaching a consensus with Mediacorp and wished the company well.

“Not the End, Just a New Beginning”

As for what he intends to do in the future, Fang revealed that his departure from Mediacorp is “not the end, just a new beginning” and that he still intends to continue pursuing his dreams in the entertainment industry.

Although he feels that he will take time to get used to not being in Mediacorp, he expressed his hopes for taking on more acting roles or opportunities to be on variety shows in the future.

He added that over the past few years, he has taken what Mediacorp has done for him “for granted” and that made him lose some motivation to work hard.

As such, he hopes to rekindle his motivation for being in front of the camera.

Does Not Intend to Take a Break, Might Become a TikToker

Apart from that, he mentioned that he would not be taking a break. Instead, he wants to work even harder.

He arrived at this decision after thinking about it for a year and finally concluded that he should seize the day to try and make a breakthrough since he is mature enough and of “the right age” to make one.

With regards to contracts, he also disclosed that he is currently not in any discussions with any other companies.

Instead, he said that he is currently in the process of producing his new single, which will be released later this year.

He then mentioned that he hopes to expand his horizons regarding the type of gigs he takes on since he now has “more freedom” as an independent artist.

He even brought up the possibility of trying his hand out at being a director.

As a realist, he pointed out that there is no point in just thinking about trying new things and that he needs to actually try them out to see where they can take him.

Apart from that, he brought up the possibility of filming TikToks as the video-sharing application is what’s trendy nowadays.

Yup, I’m pretty sure that public figures who don’t use TikTok will soon become abnormalities.

He also discussed how he hopes to garner the public’s support in his new endeavours.

Apologised to Those He Hurt in the Past

On a heavier note, Fang also expressed his wish to apologise to the people he has hurt in the past.

He clarified that although his close friends in the entertainment circle know “the real him”, many members of the public may not have gotten the chance to do so due to “certain factors“.

As such, he wanted to apologise to those he has hurt for his past actions.

Proudest Moment is Winning Best Newcomer Award

As for his proudest moment, he mentioned in both his Instagram post and interview that it was when he won the Best Newcomer award at the 2013 Star Awards.

He added that he has grown exponentially over the past 12 years and that it has been an incredible journey for him.

And just like a typical Star Awards thank-you speech, he ended off by saying that despite his ups and downs, he has met many good friends and personnel who have continued to support him in his career.

Additionally, he said openly that he would continue to pursue his dreams with the lessons and experience that Mediacorp has given him.

He will also remain passionate about the entertainment industry while improving himself.
