Illegal Brothel Exposed After Thai Woman Was Rescued From Room With Broken Lock

The wraps were recently taken off of an illegal vice ring with brothels in Orchard Road and Jalan Besar.

And it was all because of a broken door lock.

Two things to note when trying to stay under the radar: First, don’t do obscure things like climbing out of a window. Second, don’t wear eye-catching colours like, say, orange when engaging in said obscure thing.

On 8 April, a Thai woman donning an orange top was spotted climbing out of a window of a third-floor unit in Jalan Besar.

That’s not all. She was repeatedly shouting for a man named David—presumably who she thought would save her.

Unfortunately for our “damsel in distress”, David didn’t come for her. Instead, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the full force of the law did.

David, you had one job.

According to Shin Min Daily News, a passer-by had come across the scene and thought the Thai woman was about to jump from the third-floor unit. Thus, she called the SCDF to attend to the situation.

To the SCDF and SPF’s surprise, they found more than just the woman outside the window upon breaking into the third-room unit. They also found contraceptives and lubricants within the room and five other rooms in the complex.

They were standing in an illegal brothel—later confirmed by another woman working for the brothel.

The jig was up.

The operations of the vice ring running illegal brothels along Orchard Road and Jalan Besar were brought to light because authorities thought they were saving a woman who climbed out of the window.

That’s one way to get sabo-ed. 

Thai Woman Worked for Illegal Brothel; Climbed Out of Window Because Door Lock was Broken 

According to the 38-year-old Thai woman, Su Pasha (hanyu pinyin), she had climbed out of the third-floor unit’s window because the door lock was broken.

Dumb ways to die…

The 38-year-old started working for the illegal brothel after being introduced by an acquaintance in late March. Before getting involved with the illegal brothel, she was a cleaner for several local bars.

The Thai woman’s duties at the illegal brothel included cleaning the vice ring’s brothels and acting as the “middleman”—she would collect the escorts’ earnings, seal them in envelopes and drop them off in designated mailboxes.

After she drops the envelopes off in the designated mailboxes, another member of the vice ring collects the envelopes. This minimises contact between members to avoid drawing the authorities’ attention.

Well, consider the attention drawn anyway. And in the most absurd way possible.

In exchange for working at the brothel, Su Pasha gets free accommodation and receives approximately $100 daily from a cut of the escorts’ earnings.

Thai Woman Sentenced to Eight Weeks’ Jail After Pleading Guilty

However, the Thai woman’s blunder didn’t just put the illegal brothel in hot water. She practically dunked herself head-first into the hot water too.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the Thai woman arrived in Singapore from Thailand on 11 January this year. Even when her visit pass expired, she remained in Singapore.

At the time of arrest, she had overstayed in Singapore by 56 days.

The 38-year-old was eventually sentenced to eight weeks’ jail after pleading guilty to one charge under the Women’s Charter and one charge under the Immigration Act.

Perhaps they should publish a book called “How to Be Smart if You’re Skirting the Law… For Dummies”.
